I've seen some pretty expensive electric lifts where your projector goes up into the ceiling, but I don't need anything that fancy, I just need to be able to pull it down and push it up.
You can do this with an adjustable drop tube, but you would want to add a cable, so that the projector can't fall. You would also have to manually, push the projector up and place the pin in the drop tube. If you have attic space above, you would be able to use a longer drop tube and shorten the outer tube. Then the inner tube is able to slide up into the attic space above. Did a system like this once before. You could even add a gas strut to pull the projector back up and you would have to pull the projector down, rather than push up. Also with this system, the projector would not be able to fall.
This would be something that you would have to design and build yourself. I would be happy to answer some questions.
