Greetings,

My reference player is the Oppo. Occasionally I will use the Panasonic if for some reason I run into compatibility issues between my reference player and a specific title. I use the PS3 with every review for viewing of the bonus material and for bitrate data.

Regards,

A 95, sweet rating, mine pre-ordered via Amazon looking forward to next week!

btw, sorta off topic, any real world diff in your Oppo vs PS3 for Blu-Ray viewing Ralph on 1080p?
Point me to a thread where you posted your thoughts and experiences, since I guess you discussed that already and I don't want to get into a heated debate here.
I've got a PS3 so kinda wondering why Oppo such a favorite here on AVS.......

I especially love the scene near the chinese theater, which is reopening this weekend with the imax 3d'd version of the wizard of oz, now rated pg. The mandarin was a soso enemy. COmparing it to iron man 2, this one is much better and continues the phase two era that began in last year's The Avengers. The next marvel movie, Thor the dark world will have the trailer for Captain America the winter soldier, which will have a trailer for guardians of the galaxy, which will have a trailer for the avengers: age of ultron. Phase three will have Ant Man, among other movies. ANd don't forget next monday's Marvel's Agents of shield, a tv series that will face cancellation. ABC is airing Iron Man 2 tonight in crappy hd. They will also air a new trailer for Thor the Dark World.

I have both Iron Man 3 & ST:ID blu ray & I'm looking forward to watch at least some parts of the material this weekend on my 100" PJ screen.
I've watched the "Agent Carter" Marvel One-Shot in the Iron Man 3 disc & it was fun. Thor: Dark World trailer in Full HD on my 50" Panasonic plasma got me excited on the upcoming movie, & I can't wait to watch this trailer on my 100" again!

Has anyone watched this on BD yet? I'm assuming it's been released in other countries?

Yes, I own the BD and have watched it. Liked it even more then when I saw it in the theater.

Ralph's rating is pretty much spot on. The final battle was awesome with excellent use of the surrounds. I felt stuff falling down and blowing up all around me.biggrin.gif

Iron Man 3 had some really great scenes with the mix of action, romance, comedy, great drama, and thrills but it ultimately failed so much to me, the blu ray maybe awesome but the story was just so weak and seems like the sequels will always be in the shadow of the first film and this film also had too much Disney and less marvel...
I think Iron Man 3 could have been spectacular if not for you know.

Dude, you should have used the spoilers tag in your post, for folks who haven't seen the movie yet.

Awesome, let us know what you think. I'll be picking this up and going to try and hold off watching it until the weekend. I have a new sub on it's way and hoping it gets here by Friday. Admittedly I'm lacking in the patience department though biggrin.gif

I just can't imagine a Harry Potter film that isn't made for fans of the book.

I know how you feel. I can't imagine a Star Trek film that isn't made for the fans of the show... oh.. wait a minute... thanks Abrams.

Has marvel reissued Iron Man 1 in dts-ma? THe first one was Dolby 5.1 HD. I recall seeing Iron Man 1 in 35mm film and dolby 5.1 at amc in rockaway, then im2 in 35mm dolby 5.1, not liemax. Then Iron man 3d at amc in liemax 3d. The 3d was ok, but not as good as STID. That i think was the best 3d of the year. Can't believe that DIsney is releasing IM3 on the same day as the crappy Marvel ABC show and another trailer for Thor 2, which looks ok.

Glad to read that this received good reviews. Like a poster above, I pre-ordered this as soon as I got home from seeing this in the theatre. I'm going to watch this before I watch Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

I look forward to it! biggrin.gif

Just got done with this and wow, I thought it was borderline terrible TBH. I thought IM1 was a great film, IM2 was disappointing and this third installment is without question worse than part 2. The movie just fell totally flat for me as it was a big "who cares" all around. Too much RDJ and not enough of the "actual" IM. By the time the big end scene comes, I was so uninvolved emotionally it just held pretty much zero interest. Glad I rented!

Audio was serviceable at best IMO and nothing demo worthy at all. Low end extension was a disappointment (VERY similar subjectively to Avengers) and low end variety was limited (which may be a result of the somewhat limited extension?). Surround usage was again serviceable at best, but nothing worth mentioning in light of the better/best surround tracks on blu.

PQ was solid.

IM1 for me is the only one worth owning while the other two are just very uninspired IMO, especially this third installment!

That pretty much sums up how I felt about this movie also!

I'd like to also add that during the darker scenes, they seemed really darker than they should have been. The lighter scenes when they were outside during the day were just fine though.

Also I totally get how some people felt about the way Mandarin was handled in this movie.

The 64,000 question is how good it the 3D Blu-ray version of the film? Is it worth the extra money or not?

Many of us are conflicted as to which Blu-ray version to buy; the one with the 3D disk or just the 2D version. The opening week "discount" on the 3D version isn't much of a "discount" and there is a large financial difference between the cost of the 2D and 3D version of the Blu-ray so lots of us are willing to wait or skip purchasing it all together. We are looking forward to the reviews of other AVS members who have purchased and viewed the 3D version of the film.

Your justifying my Netflix budget biggrin.gif Now I'm glad I got the Great Gatsby for backup this weekend , It looks like I won't be buying but three or four to wrap up the year.

STID

Man Of Steel

Pacific Rim

Despicable Me 2 ( wife would hurt me if I don't buy it) eek.gif JK but I like it to wink.gif

Hi Ralph,

As always your reviews are superior. I'll be buying this after work tonight. Looking forward to both the 2d and 3d version.

I'm a fan of 3d and after having a 3d display for 15 plus months it's obvious that a truly engaging and enjoyable 3d experience is dependent on a combination of: the source material, topic, studio mastering and a display that can produce bright 3d experience.

Kind regards,

Jon

Toe,

I haven't seen it yet BUT I do think we've been saturated with tooOOOOoooo much RDJ as well. Even if I had zero interest in IM3 myself, my wife demands that I deliver this combo pack along with dinner. If I don't I could risk a serious domestic compliance situation. biggrin.gif

Cheers!

A lot of people liked the movie, so I hope you fall into that camp and not mine.

Bladerunner, by all means in your situation, you need to buy this along with dinner! Best to keep the peace at home even if it means bringing too much RDJ for dinner! tongue.gif

Lol! I'll about have my fill of RDJ after I watch IM3. I think in the next installment he should get a new GF and I'm thinking Halle B, man she still looks good biggrin.gif

Man, I really hope they don't make a 4th film! If they do make more of these though, I agree as GP does nothing for me. New GF, MORE IM (and less RDJ), less DC (who was terrible in this movie IMO), much better bad guy (the bad guy in 3 was boring/lame), and a more extended and convincing low end. If they can do all this, I would be open to a 4th IM.
