American Horror Story: Coven tells the secret history of witches and witchcraft in America. Over 300 years have passed since the turbulent days of the Salem witch trials and those who managed to escape are now facing extinction. Mysterious attacks have been escalating against their kind and young girls are being sent away to a special school in New Orleans to learn how to protect themselves. Wrapped up in the turmoil is new arrival, Zoe (Taissa Farmiga), who is harboring a terrifying secret of her own. Alarmed by the recent aggression, Fiona (Jessica Lange), the long-absent Supreme, sweeps back into town, determined to protect the Coven and hell-bent on decimating anyone who gets in her way.

Coven features an extraordinary cast including Oscar(R), Emmy(R) and Golden Globe(R) award winners Jessica Lange and Kathy Bates; Golden Globe Award winner and Academy Award(R) nominated Angela Bassett; Emmy Award nominated Sarah Paulson; Golden Globe Award winner and Emmy nominated Frances Conroy; Oscar and Golden Globe award nominated Gabourey Sidibe; Emmy Award nominated Denis O'Hare; Emmy Award nominated Patti LuPone; Evan Peters; Taissa Farmiga; Lily Rabe; and Emma Roberts.

haha I've been waiting for this thread biggrin.gif
Thank you for making it.

There's like 10 different promotional posters out. That's one of the best in my opinion. I could share the others but don't want to clutter the thread with images.

nothing else going on, post the others!

Can't wait. Not too fond of the witch subject but I'm sure it's going to be great none the less. Less then a month to go! biggrin.gif

Here is hoping it is better the last season as I felt it lacked a lot compared to the stunning first season.

The thing that sank last season for me was that they clearly had no ending and started making it up at the half way point to capitalize on Jessica Lange and Sarah Paulson. As soon as Cromwell cremated himself for no good reason the show (and the more interesting story) went downhill.

This show is wildly uneven. The first season was much better than the muddled mess last season devolved into. But at least it's a "big swing" with a serialized arc and not lowest-common-denominator reality or procedural pablum. That puts it on my schedule. Plus, witches! Who doesn't like adorable little wiccans, out dancing in the wooded moonlight in their adorable little frocks? smile.gif

I think we are well past the point of Kathy Bates being an "adorable little Wiccan" but there may be some younger versions prancing. Well, I hope so. biggrin.gif

As long as it includes the wicked demon nun from last season as a witch (Lily Rabe?), I'm all in. But yeah, last season was a big comedown from S1.

Boy, they've spent a lot of money on some awesome promotional posters! I assume we'll start seeing these roll out in various media outlets over the next few weeks.

The most memorable part of last season was that damn song that stuck in my head and comes out about once every couple weeks ever since.

Even at it's worst the show delivers copious amounts of weirdness you won't find elsewhere on TV.

Agreed completely .. although last season did seem to get a little slow at times .. Cromwell and Lange made it worthwhile, though ..

Congrats to Cromwell on the emmy win for supporting actor.

He wasn't even the best supporting actor on the show last season, and he didn't even last the entire season. He basically chewed the scenery like he always does. He won because he's James Cromwell. Welcome to the Emmys. rolleyes.gif

I noticed Ellen Burstyn won something as well. Hope she was in the role longer than the 10 minute walk-on she won her last Emmy for. Honestly, it's ridiculous.

Yep, nothing he did on AHS was Emmy-worthy, that was a popularity contest winner. Way more deserving actors than what he did.
The best thing about last night's Emmy's was the intro bits ..

We (wife and I) bowed out early last season for a couple of reasons, but are definitely looking foward to the new season. The first season was a well-done ghost story (among other themes), so it will be interesting to see a new take on witches (and warlocks?).

I liked Season 2, but I thought Season 1 was much better .. maybe because it was new ..

I hope Season 3 lives up to the promos they are doing ..
Official promotional shots are out now. As well as official character artwork. Don't know if they're considered spoilers, rather not post them if they're spoilers.

Less than a week to go!

I never watched the first 2 seasons of this show, something I was going to get around to but never did. Anyway, these promos I've been seeing have me intrigued, plus it's set in New Orleans, one of the most fascinating places around. So the question is, is this a show I can jump right into without missing a lot of background? I seem to recall that that was the format of the show when it first premiered, each season was distinct from the others, that they were for the most part, self-contained.
