Looks like the first review for this set has gone up. Not too detailed I'm afraid, but I hope this means others are coming soon.

If anyone else spots other reviews, please post them here.

TV is set to go on sale the first week of October and is seen as the big brother to the 55" W900/905.

Well here is actualy make sence. W850A model is 65" and W900A is only 55" TV and it is importand for many people. Talking about make no sense to Tv's how about how many non importand models are on market. It is just about fill market with as much as possible. So many companies like Samsung and Sharp make those stupid models for Best buy and other retailers so it is so hard to find out good TV in those days!!!! All those Best buy models missing a lot of future a specially on Black friday it is terible.

Extra 10 inches of pleasure?

Agree. I think many people (myself included) would have bought the W900 but it was to small. I almost caved a couple of weeks ago but I have had a 60" set for a few years now and didn't want to downgrade size wise.

I can't figure out why Sony is jumping back and forth between "active" and "passive" across the TVs of late? I thought that they were headed for all

passive and then this one and the new X850 come out in active. Very confusing as to what they are up to
.

Even though passive is better in terms of cost of glasses and no lost of brightness you lose some resolution with the tv when watching 3D content also you might see some interlaced lines. Active 3D will give you Full HD in both eyes but with a slight lose of brightness, hopefully minimal cross talk or non at all. In Sony eyes picture quality is everything from 4K UHD, 3D, HD TV viewing that's probably why they went with the active 3d.

Hello.

Has anyone else picked up that this display apparently has a slightly curved screen?

No mention of it on Sony US, but on Sony Canada it is described as helping give better viewing angles with a slight curve.

It shows on US site as shipping 10/4

Curious about any input lag associated with this TV. If anyone has any info, please post!
Not a gamer, so no insight from me, however TGM1024 knows Sony products quite well and has postulated that the w850 will perform very close to the w900 which has good reviews re input lag. I will very interested to read the reviews on this set. If PQ equals the w900 it will be difficult to pass up. I am hopeful it will be a good set to fill the gap until OLED technology matures.

Thanks for that info!

The w900 has 19ms of lag, which makes it one of the best for any HDTV. If the w850a has close to that and great PQ at 65", I may have found my new TV.

Has anyone sighted a 65W850a in the wild?

Amazon's status is still pre-order.

Sony estimates shipping on Tuesday, Oct. 8th.

Thanks for the links. All of us are awaiting the first shipments to reach the reviewers and owners. Personally, I feel some review sites are biased toward plasma, so I give an owners opinion a lot of weight. I am not a gamer, therefore picture quality and uniformity with decent blacks and color fidelity are what I hope are in positive reviews. Many of us have not been excited by any 65 inch sets thus far, but if the reviews are so-so, I for one will delay yet again ; as I have deep concerns about the quality control of the 65f8000. However, I am optimistic that our wait is over.

I an a gamer that does want the good motion, sharp edges, blacks, and shadow detail along with good input lag lol. Really want it all lol. Been torn between the w900 and the 70r550a since i started actually reading different reviews and this forum. My only problem is i sit 12' away and really want the bigger screen. But with most places listing the 70" for around 2200 with 5 more inches of real estate I'm hoping this set will be worth the extra 500 for a slightly smaller screen.

Sony went with a different panel on this set vs. the 900 and this is 4k so you are not talking about interlaced lines and half resolution for 3D. It's full resolution for each eye passive and active.

I was under impression the w850 was 1080p but the x850 was 4k???

I noticed ABT has it in stock now and they don't charge tax (I think at least). I really want the black levels of the 950 coming from an Elite lcd tv and a Pioneer Kuro before that. I know this tv won't have that plus the FALD helps with any clouding or flash lighting you might have versus the edge lit display of the W850.
