Wow. I find that surprising.
12000 posts in these forums as some kind of resident expert yet it is only really relevant for watching movies and TV. You never listen to music on your HT system..??
My HT is just that. A HT. It's for watching movies and is optimised for that. I don't watch much TV, and when I do it's on the smaller television in the living room. For HT I want a big, projected picture, a blacked-out room, painted in dark colours, a lot of acoustic treatments and a sound system that can do justice to the demands of movies, especially in the bass region (I have dual Seaton Submersives).
For music, I am far more relaxed about the system I play the music on. I can't really explain why, other than as already said. I can enjoy music on earphones, on my (half decent) computer speakers and so on. I don't listen to music seriously in the HT because I don't find a blacked-out room, covered in acoustic panels etc etc a very relaxing atmosphere to listen to music in. Liike I say, it's like a cinema (deliberately) and I wouldn't go to the cinema to listen to music. I readily admit that I could do more with my music-only system but I don't feel any need, as explained.
I'm not sure why you find it surprising. Even if I didn't own a single music album, I could still be massively interested in cinema, surely? I can’t quite see the connection. Similarly, I don't really understand your point about my post count and (alleged) 'expert' status. How does that have anything to do with wanting a very good HT? 99.9% of my posts here are not about music reproduction, just HT sound and vision. As you have seen, my musical tastes are very specific and quite narrow - maybe that has something to do with it? I genuinely have no idea why HT sound interests and occupies me much more than music sound - it just 'does'. I should perhaps say that I came onto these great forums initially not because I had any great interest in, or love for, multichannel sound systems. My primary passion is movies (I watch about 350 every year and have done for some time) and all I wanted was to be able to reproduce the cinema experience, as closely as I could, at home. The interest in AV became a kind of secondary hobby.
