I wonder if anybody in the US found the same unstable alignment/focus problem as found by French testers at www.hdfever.fr
on the European version of the VPL-VW500ES :
"Unfortunately, I will input about the only real concern of this projector. I found problems of convergence and apparently many new owners are also complaining about the forum HDfever. Upon ignition, the matrices are not well aligned with shifts more or less important depending on the model, but the problem is not really there because Sony offers a true alignment system high performance matrices and areas 153 crossing points (17 settings for horizontal x vertical 9) with an accuracy of the order of 0.1 pixel. No, the real concern is that this alignment is not stable. Clearly, you do your alignment and 3 hours after you can see that everything has moved. I do not know if it will by arranging with the running, but my test model had 50 hours upon receipt, and 100 hours when I returned. I found a very slight improvement towards the end, but the problem actually persisted ... In my opinion, this instability is sensitive to heat, which dilate materials, but it should have done more testing to be sure. Another concern I have found some minor problems of de-focus after a few hours."
Multiple people on the www.hdfever.fr
forum complain about the same issue, so at the minimum it is a whole batch of projectors which has this issue.
The problem seems to persist, even after hundreds of hours of usage.
Unfortunately, if it is related to some hardware parts dilating too much with heat, no software update will fix it...
