Speaker placement in media room - need advice

A friend is building out a loft and wants to re-use some Jamo in-wall speakers he found in the loft. We connected them and they sound reasonably good (I'm not a fan of in-wall speakers generally, but we all compromise somewhere and since he has five of them and they sound pretty good, it makes sense to use them).

In the image below, you'll see that the TV is going on the West wall (red line on the wall). The LR and C will accompany the TV. The question is what to do with the rears. I'm attaching photos of the speakers in case that's relevant.

My friend originally wanted to put the rears above the couches (ceiling mounted). The couches are a bit off center - that's another compromise because the dining room makes it impossible to center the couches. I looked at the space today and suggested that he consider putting them in the East wall (opposite the TV wall). They would be some distance from the seating area, but he can adjust the delays to compensate for that and he would have them ear level in that position, as opposed to ceiling heigh over the couches (the ceilings are 12 foot tall). The ceiling is a drop ceiling, so he probably would need to build out a cabinet/box for the speakers if he installs them there, so that they're not hanging in open air.

As you can see, it's a big, open space. What do you think? Better to install in the ceiling (surrounds) or in the East wall opposite the TV?

Many thanks in advance for your advice.

Can he mount that TV on a swing-arm and swing it out toward the couch? This is the one time I might agree ceiling-mount to be a better surround option. That is a bear of a room to deal with. Front and center speakers hanging attached to and swing with the TV perhaps? Would have to be small soundbar type. All those hard walls and hardwood, I'm thinking a sealed sub.

That's a good thought - I suggested the same thing (swing arm and a sound bar) if he absolutely must have the couches off center.

Thanks!

I would put them in the ceiling, spread as wide apart as symmetrically possible (to get some left-vs-right separation in the surround field.

IF your friend can find another pair of those speakers (even used) and mount them in the back wall (east wall), then he will be able to enjoy excellent rear-vs-side separation in the surround field (one of the hallmarks of a 7.1-speaker set-up).

Couches are fine - need a swing arm for the TV and mount the center onto the bottom of the TV so that it swings out as well.
