I know people who are in the luxury car market, and some wouldn't care, and some do care.
In audio in a similar way, there are people who think you have to spend the big bucks for electronics to get acceptable sound, and there are those who want the panache of audio sculpture and jewelry.
Besides, you may be thinking about obsolete information.
The last Nissan Skyline Z-tune did 0-60 in about 3.7 seconds with a top speed of 203 mph. The latest Lamborghini Aventador is said to do 0-60 in 2.8 seconds with a top speed of about 218 mph. In that rare air, small differences like 1.1 seconds and 16 mph mean a lot.
The Z-tune was basically a factory race can with creature (dis)comforts to match. The Aventador is not exactly my cup of tea as a touring car, but it is a whole lot more refined. Besides they stopped making Skylines long ago, but Aventadors appear to still being made. One's a ghost and the other is a living car.
Not an apples -to-apples comparison.
