I've compared $200+ HDMI cables to my mono price cables.....I returned the expensive ones. I could not see or hear a difference. Maybe, maybe in a several hundred thousand dollar and up you'll be able to tell....but I doubt it.
As to why, I"ll let someone with more technical expertise answer that. All I need to know is that I couldn't see or hear any difference.
It's pretty simple; with digital signals, the cable is either fully passing all the 1's and 0's properly, or it isn't. There is no such thing as 'richer' or 'more vivid' colors or 'tighter bass' due to 'better' HDMI cables.
You either get the digital signal properly, or you don't. First indicators of a sub par HDMI cable is usually video sparklies and other anomalies (neon posterization) etc., to severe blocking and loss of picture. The folks claiming richer colors and deeper blacks are full of it and don't understand the differences between digital and analog signals.
