Hello? Nobody can confirm darbee has nothing to do with 3D? I am about to order it, but being sure on it. Obviously 4k upconverting needs a 4k tv and so I am being sure darbee isn't meant for 3D tvs. I assume not, but why not be totally sure before I order?
You don't need a 3D display to make use of DVP. It works fine with standard 1080P displays. Read over this extensive review. (translated)
Also avoid using DVP with higher settings as that creates artifacts, most recommend the HD mode with 25 to 35% level.
I just got my 103D ordering through Amazon after returning a 103 ordered from OPPO. In both cases, no matter what the delivery window or who was providing it, the package arrived in 5-6 days to my home in Maryland. Don't worry, be happy. FYI it is always FedEx so if the time frame means it would hit on a weekend you will have to wait.
Just read your previous post: Yes, the DVD performance is very impressive with decent DVDs using Darbee ... one of my big reasons for going this route. Blu-ray is just stunning with even low levels of Darbee. Edited by ClarkeBar - 11/1/13 at 4:41pm
Hope I didn't mess up ordering from Amazon.... It says it's sent straight from oppo, but the estimated delivery date shows up to 3 weeks from today, whereas on the oppo site it says 1-6. I assume since it's Oppo sending it, it would ship the same way and time as if I ahd ordered straight from them....
I ordered through Amazon and I got it in 2 days. I live in SoCal and according to Oppo's website, 2 days was to be expected. Yes, Amazon's estimate was way off. Trust in Oppo's estimates on their site.
^ No different than the way you would use the 93. Just use the single, HDMI 1 output of the 103D unless you HAVE TO use dual cabling -- for example if you have a 3D TV, but your AVR can't pass 3D video signals.
Connection options are described in the Manual for the 103D -- downloadable from the OPPO Digital Support page for the 103D:
Relax. The 103D you have on order will be fine. ALL players have problems. Seriously. The point of threads like this is to encourage people to discuss any issues, so they can find out which are just operator error -- easy to fix on their own -- and which are resolved as new firmware comes out.
I like to think in the OPPO threads we do a better job helping people understand what's up, and so it's no surprise owners post a lot.
So much handwringing. Just accept it's on the way and let your eyes decide for you. I love it so far. I own a Samsung F8500 plasma, which is a decent set in its own right. I have Darbee set to 35 most of the time. The main reason I bought this version was for cable TV improvement, not so much disc media. Lets face it, most providers and streaming services need enhancement to their PQ. I have FIOS for reference sake. Anyway, I'm happy.
While I dont like the Darbee stuff, the 103D plays everything I have put in it, including 3D, and offers excellent PQ on optical and with my DVR running thru it. Im not sure what else I could be mad about. Also built like a tank, passes video tests (some players still dont do this) and has exceptional warranty and support. Is it for everyone? No. But it is nice player and offers a ton of options.
I also have a Roku stick on the way from Oppo, be curious to see how that works.
A lot of angst in the 103D thread lately worrying about the extra $100 being a possible waste of money. After trading in the 103 for the 103D several weeks ago I can tell you it's the best $100 I've ever spent. I thought the 103 was great (and it is) but with the big 150" screen the Darbee adds so much depth and detail that it's simply more fun to watch movies.
I'm waiting for the newest gen of projectors to come out to upgrade my 720p , but the wait is now very tolerable after upgrading to the 103D. I won't set off another flame war here, but I still have zero doubt that the 103D also has a bigger more precise sound than the regular 103. Fan boy? Yes, and for good reason.
I am thinking of getting the 103D but will be using a Pioneer Kuro 5020FD (50"). Would it be worth it to get the darbee edition over the regular 103?

I got the 103D and have a Pioneer Elite PRO-111FD (50"). I would say the decision really depends on how far you sit from the screen. I sit too far, but still see the Darbee difference. It doesn't look "processed" to me, so I really like that feature.
Overall, this player is an nice
improvement over my old Pioneer BDP-51FD, picture and audio-wise (I use analog outs). And that thing was the same price!
