Discovered at NeoGAF, Valve has put in applied for a Half Life 3 trademark.

At least it is now official.

Eh, the trademark they applied for is in the EU, not here, so this honestly could mean anything. I still think it's happening, but I don't consider this to be a 100% guarantee

There are 46 people on Valve's own Half Life 3 bug tracking core list. The title is legitimately in development.

Makes sense being that the series is their #1 solo player franchise at a time when they have announced a new gaming platform, OS and controller. This game will be their crown jewel when the Steam Box releases.

Never said it wasn't in development, I just said that a trademark filing isn't a confirmation lol. There's been all kinds of stuff in the last couple years that's pointed to it being in development. But until Valve outright says "yes, it's coming and here's the release date" I'm not holding my breath.

At this point, just seeing a demo of the Source 2 engine in action will make me happy.

I wonder if they will make a new new new counter strike on the new source engine! :P

JB:

I totally agree with you on this. Especially after reading how they are working so closely with Oculus Rift on their 2014 launch. I think they plan to release it with a bombshell. Meaning...in VR/3D/SteamOS (Best version)...3D/SteamOS (Best PC monitor version)...2D monitor/HDTV version (for general PC/Steam general/consoles). I talk about this collaboration a little more on my last OR post. But I wouldn't be surprised to see Valve talking up HL3 more in early 2014. Especially if OR is a firm GO.

Edit:

Here is more fuel from the OR developers forum on their website:

The conversation occurred between "Antigravity" and other devs today about tessalation in particle physics scenes. If you track the conversations. You can sort of feel out who the Valve guys are. And what they are working on. I really read this forum as it is quite interesting. The thread was "A Solution For The Blurriness".
