Budget Speaker System: Which one should I pick of the following?

Thread Starter

Hi everyone, I'm looking to buy a home theatre system under $1000 and I've narrowed my options down to the following:

Option 1:

Jamo S426HCS3 speaker system with a Denon X1000 for the AVR Total price of this would be around $800 for me, leaving some money left over for a Subwoofer.

Option 2:

Wharfedale - VR-300 speaker system ($799) and then a much cheaper AVR

Option 3:

YHT-799AU HTIB system. Comes with a pretty good AVR: The Yamaha RX-V475 and with the Yamaha 150 series for speakers (costs me $1100)

Option 4:

There is also a Harman Kardon HTIB system here: http://www.jbhifi.com.au/home-theatre/harman-kardon/5-1-channel-networked-home-theatre-pack-sku-429584/

which costs me $977

I am a beginner in the audio game and by no means an audiophile. However, I'm just looking for the speakers that will offer me the best audio quality in my budget. Please note that the room this is for is a 6m x 3m dedicated home theater room. Please ask me if you need any more information, any advice is appreciated.

Note: I've heard great things about the Andrew Jones Pioneer speaker pack on this forum but unfortunately, its $1200 here in Australia and out of my budget. Are there any other such systems that I should look for?

Thanks heaps!

You can do much better for $1000.

I would start with a Denon 1713 from www.accessories4less.com They are a reputable seller and buying factory refurbished is a good way to save some money. The 1713 is pretty much identical to the X1000.

The NXG NS-BAS-500 is a great subwoofer choice. I would say it's probably the best option under $300 and there is a good review of it at hometheatershack by Jim Wilson.

With the rest of the budget, I would go with The Pioneer Andrew Jones speakers. Two pairs of the BS22 and a C22 to give you a nice 5.1 system. You should have enough left in the budget for some speaker stands and cabling from www.monoprice.com.

For speakers, I'd definitely consider getting a 5.1 PSB Alpha set like this one here from DMC-Electronics

or the Pioneer set that everyone's talking about.
EDIT: Oops...I just read the last part of your post.

for a receiver I'd get something like what trasnmaniacon suggested (accessories4less especially) but I'd go a little higher and purchase the 1913 model or an equivalent Yamaha.

will let you know if I can think of anything else...
