Sorry, you're right.

They're holding it over the frame. Check hands.

Looks like I won't be getting by OLED any time soon, it's been backordered mad.gif
post #63 of 418
No estimation, eh? Maybe a semi-affordable OLED in the 70" variety will be here by 2018 then. wink.gif
post #64 of 418
I'll be ready to replace my 55" OLED about that time.

Press2play, try Cleveland Plasma or Value Electronics. You'll likely get a better deal anyway. I think they are in stock at both stores.

The set was supposed to arrive on the 14th, but I got an email stating that it was backordered. When I got to the store to cancel the order, the BB District Manager just happened to be there and he was very understanding, and he asked me to give him 24 hours, which I did. At this point, if I go ahead and cancel, I don't know how long it will take for the card companies to credit my account, so I'm hoping BB comes through. If I do have to cancel, I'll probably wait till the holidays and see what new OLEDs spring up.

Nothing new is springing up for the holidays.

Best Buy is full of it. They are lying. I went trough the same thing. A check was written then when they put it through their verification it came back turned down, but not due to insufficient funds. They called and I was told to write two checks - I did - that was turned down. The people on the phone said break up the amount further so I wrote two smaller checks and the rest on a CC. That went through. (the next morning I found out the second two checks actually went through and the person from their check verification lied so over 20,000 went through! I had to fight for the proper amount to be refunded!) All this took over 2hrs ... AFTER STORE CLOSING. Anyway I was told to expect the TV by 9/13/13. I was also told to contact the store again at week's end for an update. I did, they said it was expected to arrive either by the 11th or 12th. It didn't. They said they didn't know when it would come in. I asked for a manager to get involved. They did. I was told that they TV will come into this part of the country through Virginia where there is a large Magnolia. It would have to be processed in that warehouse, then sent to that Magnolia, then sent to another warehouse closer to the store where I made the purchase, then sent to the store, then sent to me. eek.gif This would add an extra 2 weeks especially since I live in Staten Island NY (I purchased it in NY because it was only on display in NJ - the only place at the time in the tri-state area!). Of course this was all moot since it was actually on backorder and they didn't really have a date for it at all within the system. Meanwhile they had my money. I contacted corporate and after a week of yelling, and screaming they too said it was on backorder. I brought up when then does it say on your website "only available in stores", shouldn't it say, "pre-order now"? I said I would cancel my order and was told, by corporate that BB would be the only one carrying it. I knew this was an out right lie since Crutchfield had sold out after receiving it in August. When I said in passing I would cancel my order they told me it would take 30 days to receive a refund, that is for a check to sent from corporate due to the amount. After yell and threating them they finally said they would send me a check within 2 days - to which I demanded it be sent via FEDEX over night. When it was sent it was sent to the wrong address. I have never dealt with a more stupid, uncaring group of people in my life. I have since destroyed my Silver Rewards card and will never step inside another BB store again ... and there's one only 8 mins. away from me, yet I had to travel over an hour into another state to try and make this purchase originally!!!

I'm sorry you were put through the ringer as well. In the end I went through VE, dealt with Robert. The man was great, the service was wonderful. It was a pleasure. smile.gif

BTW - I'm selling my Darbee if anyone is interested in classified biggrin.gif

Well, that might be true but the OLED Association still has this on their website

I cancelled the BB order and went to Robert at VE. They will calibrate the set when it arrives. All the sets in his store look fantastic!
I have to say that I'm a bit disappointed with BB, not because they missed the fulfillment date, but because they were the first in the US to showcase the OLED TVs and never got around to making it actually available -- at least not on the East Coast. Now the backorders has forced them to remove the Samsung from its online store.
I'm still going to shop at BestBuy, though. Just wish they'd keep their staff better informed and stop telling customers they can have the set in two to three weeks. At this time, it just isn't so.

I would worry about an OLED being rushed to market like this.

Is a 10pt white balance adjustment possilbe with the S9C? Scott Wilkinson's video shows a 2pt calibration, with offset and gain controls for the low end and high end only.

Yep, according to Robert, a 10pt adjustment will be done. Yippee!!!

Yeah...great review because it appears to be objective, the reviewer's comments about the screen curvature being one example.

It's so counter-intuitive to think that a small curved screen would increase feelings of immersion. It's not an IMAX dome theater. I would have loved to be in the room when the engineers were discussing this "feature" with the marketing people.

On the other hand, what OLED does well it does very well.

Okay, here's the OLED all calibrated and resting on my TV stand. The store forgot to put the power cord back in the box after calibration, so I may have to wait for them to reopen on Monday. I'll try searching tomorrow for a replacement AC cord.

Also, I found it takes a bit of effort to screw in the four screws on the pedestal and one of the screws has already popped off. Robert at VE says a Samsung tech can fix it. The set looks magnificent though. Truly modern with WOW factor.

Pre and post calibration results, grayscale and Gamut...

According to Scott's calibration video of the S9C, a DeltaE under 3 is undetectable by the human eye. What nice work by Ed Johnson.

Robert called. Get to pick up the cord Sunday morning, which means I get to see Boardwalk Empire on my new set Sunday night, including sports, and some 3D Blurays. Oh, yeah...

Source: cable box

3D glasses charging.

About cable box images, the colors on the set are outstanding and unbelievable. Not garish. Just very natural and really draws you in.

Cable images look sharp, but can also appear soft depending on the program, or parts of the show, like the closeup of Edward's face is stunning, with the scars and all, while other shots are not as detailed.

Also, I don't see sparkles or noise when I get up close to the TV, like I used to on my plasma. It's all gone!

I was expecting a bright screen, but the set is easy on the eyes, no doubt thanks in part to the great calibration that was done. I would compare the image to a great plasma set, but without the screen noise or other artifacts that I usually see. Tim Burton's Corpse Bride is mind blowing, and this is only on cable!

The speakers are great and can play loudly without stress, although I would still give the edge in audio to the Pioneer 5080.

From the front, the curve of the TV is not bothersome, at least not to me, and images don't look distorted. From the extreme side, it looks like someone punched in the center.

From cable PQ alone, I can tell you this set is easily worth 10 grand!

Glad you are loving it. Let us know how it holds up over time, see if you notice any chances in the color once the blue subpixels have some age. I would love an OLED but want once bigger, flat and alot less expensive. Maybe in 2017.
I hear you about the size. Avatar 3D looks better on the OLED than in the theater, IMO, and the only thing that will top that, is a larger OLED. The brightness is there and the clarity is excellent.

A note about the speakers on this set, the sound quality is actually quite good. The top end is airy, and there's enough midrange and bass to surprise you. I have my Tosh HDDVD player hooked directly to the set and the sound does not disappoint.

As beautiful a picture you get on this set, there's still a problem with motion. I found myself adjusting the motion control every time I switched sources. Once adjusted, the motion was minor, but no where near as good as my plasma.

Edit: I'm firing off an email to Samsung about the motion lag. Maybe they can address it in a future firmware or make an improvement via the next One Connect box. This is the only real flaw on this set.

I gave a Samsung tech a description of the problem, and he explained that it might be a frame rate issue, and not so much a problem with motion blur. He suggested I do a factory Reset, which he also explained would cancel all recent calibration work, so I'm not doing that right now. He also said there's a firmware update already available, but couldn't give any details about fixes. The update is only available through the set itself, but he said it would include a power cycle and leave the calibration unchanged. I will look into that a little further.

Edit: based on what the tech said, I checked the video output on the Oppo BDP and switched it from Auto to 1080p and that fix the motion problem. I wound up leaving the players output on Source Direct.
I'm not sure what this means. Seems the TV is having an issue changing from 1080i mode (cable box) to 1080p, causing random skips in the picture...like I said, the problem is usually noticeable when I change inputs.

Edit: to clarify, the problem seems to be when the player is on Auto mode. Switching the input from cable box (1080i) to player (with video output set to Auto mode) causes skips.

Why not jot down the picture settings and re-enter them after a factory reset?
Very do-able. I have the file and all the settings. Just very nervous about going there.

^^^ WOW.

(I know, I know, this comment didn't add to the discussion at all, but the pictures are truly stunning.)
