From passive 2 ways to active 2 ways with miniDSP

I have a bookshelf speaker with a 1 inch tweeter and 7 inch woofer with passive crossover. Currently its running on a vintage receiver with 120 watts per channel on tap. Any advantage by removing the passive crossover and inserting a miniDSP and using another receiver as power amp Both of my receivers has pre-power in options, I certainly don't need the additional SPL to be gained from using a single 120 WPC amp versus 2 amps, 120 wpc and 270 wpc, my goal is to improve the sound quality.

Do you have any measuring equipment? You would need a mic, frequency response measurement software, impeadance measurement jig (if you wanted to copy the transfer function from the passive x-over) and active crossover design software to fully take advantage of the miniDSP. You do gain a lot of flexibility in the crossover design vs. passive but there are drawbacks including the possibility of higher noise getting though to the tweeter from the DSP and the added complexity to setup the amps (level match and such).

If you do work everything out it should be possible to exceed the SQ of the stock x-over by going active especially if the passive crossover is fairly basic but don't expect to just plug in a couple filters and be done.

The passive crossover is a 3rd order slope designed by Appolito. (spelling ?)

As for level matching the amps, I am assuming that the miniDSP would have gain.output control for each amplifier, is this NOT the case ?
