Any Advantage in Running HDMI Straight to Display Instead of through a Receiver?

If I run the video signal from my blu ray player to a receiver and then to my display, aren't I running some risk of degrading or changing the signal in some way? Seems like the purest method would be to run it straight to the display, no?

The audio makes no difference to you? Or do you have dual hdmi outputs on your player? Personally I just use pass-through on my avr as far as video processing is concerned as my tv does a great job.

I would run separate HDMI audio and video cables to preserve HD audio.

Passthrough means the signal is untouched?
