Need help figuring out why Pioneer PRO-R06U media receiver broke twice in 6 months

Thread Starter
I was hoping one of the experts on here could answer some questions for me. I purchased a Pioneer PRO-1130HD 50" plasma TV around 2005. It comes with a PRO-R06U media receiver. I have been using the TV since I bought it. Everything was working fine until about Feb of this year when all of a sudden I couldn't get any picture. After playing around with the connections I was able to get a picture by hooking the HDMI out from my DVR, or Blu Ray player, directly to one of the HDMI inputs of the media receiver. Because of this I thought the issue was my receiver, I run all my video components (DVR, Blu Ray, etc) into the receiver & the out to the media receiver through an HDMI cable. However when I took my receiver in to be looked at it worked just fine. I eventually found a place that fixes Pioneer TVs & they said the HDMI inputs on the media receiver were bad & needed to be replaced. I believe they actually swapped out the motherboard of the receiver rather than fix/replace the inputs. All was well until about a month ago it when it happened again. Same thing, no picture to the TV unless I hooked the HDMI cables directly from the source components to the media receiver.

The thing that is weird to me is, in both cases, if I ran the HDMI source directly to the media receiver, bypassing my regular receiver I get a signal. It is only when I run it through the receiver that I get no picture, though the receiver does get sound.

I was lucky enough to get a replacement media receiver off eBay & have it hooked up to my system & working. But I am afraid the same thing will happen again, especially since I have no idea what caused it in the first place.

I was hoping someone on the forums might know why this is happening so I can try & avoid the media receiver crapping out on me a 3rd time. I would like to know in general if there are any issues with the PRO-R06U, like say bad manufacturing or overheating, that might explain what is causing this. Also, if anyone has any idea why the running of the HDMI signal through my receiver would cause the picture to not display but running it directly to the media receiver would work just fine.

Thanks.

They must have planned obsolesce...
Same issue here only I made it until MARCH...
I'm told it's the main board... which you can buy for $406.00 from Pioneer...
Guess I'll do that... I really like the TV and the quality...
I was looking for an excuse to upgrade to a Samsung UN65F9000 but maybe wait a bit... :-)
Do you have a repair manual or know where I could find on on line...
Otherwise I'll just stumble through it...
Just build a custom high end PC rig so I think I can handle it...
Have a good day...
