AVS Party at CEDIA 2013

For me, one of the highlights of CEDIA Expo 2013 was the AVS Forum party on Friday, September 27—naturally, the only day it rained during the show! Held at a club called Jazz@Jack's and sponsored by Monoprice, the event featured great food, an open bar, and live music by Dotsero, a smokin' band with guitar, bass, drums, and tenor sax.

Even better, I got to sit in with the band on a few tunes. This marked the first time I had merged two of the worlds I inhabit—AV and music. Hoping I would have the opportunity to play with the band, I brought a couple of recorders with me—they're easier to pack than a trombone! Normally, these flute-like instruments are used to play music from the Renaissance and Baroque periods (which I also do), but I've played jazz on them for 40 years. The juxtaposition of those two worlds was strange and wonderful for me, and the crowd really seemed to dig it.

In fact, a grand time was had by all throughout the evening, and I thoroughly enjoyed meeting so many AVS members. My deepest appreciation to Monoprice for its generous sponsorship, Jazz@Jack's for the great food and drink, Dotsero for the hot music, and all those who stopped by despite the rain. I look forward to seeing you next year!

Yes! The AVS CEDIA party is always a good time. It was great seeing everyone again and meeting some new folks as well.

As Scott said, we're very thankful to Monoprice for their sponsorship and continued support of AVS.

I bumped into some old friends at the AVS party, Thanks AVS. I go way back with meatballs and chicken strips.

It was good to put faces with some of the Forum Members.

See you next year

Good stuff Scott! I'd like to hear you break into a little Jetro Tull on your clarinet?? biggrin.gif
Cool instrument, it's not a flute and it doesn't look like a full size clarinet. Is it a clarinet Scott?

LOL! It kinda looks like a clarinet, but it's actually an alto recorder, which sounds more like a flute than a clarinet, so it would work very well with Jethro Tull music. Aqualung, anyone?

Always enjoyable and great to see old friends. I only hope we can get more sponsorship and participation next year.
