just a lazy conversion since I can't stand the original 70's style Canadian cover.

Watched it last night and this one had some nice, solid bass in it. Thoroughly enjoyed it and will be watching again soon.

I'm going to rent this one first, in the hope that it's not the loud blast of sound that makes you jump, as in most horror movies nowadays, but the well setup scenes that truly grab you with tension.

Sucks that netflix is delaying this movie by a month...I already have it in my queue

I must be tainted by movies similar to this, because even though it's well done in many respects, I felt I had seen it before. So no chills or thrills which is really my bad because I love good scare.

I am a huge horror movie fan and this one had the hair standing up on the back of my neck. Excellent movie! Reminded me of when I saw The Exorcist or the original Amityville Horror in the theaters. Yes , I'm an old man that can still be scared by a movie.smile.gif

Right there with you - quite simply one of the best supernatural horror films I've seen in a good while.

And yes - this one will give your sub a workout biggrin.gif

Maybe because it's the same guy who did Insidious?

Which isn't a knock at all. Good thing there's plenty of material out there for you to something to enjoy.

This genre is the one that frustrates me the most....I'm not much for cheap thrills and gimmicks that they use to try and make the girls scream in the theater. Horror films disappoint me far more often than they impress, so I'm eager to see this one given Ralph's favorable review. Certainly good audio is key for any horror film to be effective, so I'll be sure to watch this one in the theater room.

It also rated good on IMDB 7.6, which is subjective but I don't buy any BD's until I read their reviews and more importantly Ralph's wink.gif
I don't care how good the movie is, if the AV fails I'll rent it.

I agree completely. I've loved movies since I was a kid, but it's always been hard to find a reviewer with whom I have a high correlation in terms of how we rate films. In my 41 years, there are really only two that I can consistently rely on - Ralph and Harry Knowles from Aint It Cool News. So I value Ralph's take very highly and feel very fortunate that he's as active with this gig as he is.

I'm glad you mentioned IMDB, cause I honestly never really paid attention to their reviews until recently. I always went there for movie data, but didn't consider it a review site.

Well my willpower only lasted so long and I broke down and bought this. tongue.gif I really wanted to see this before Halloween and Netflix wont have it until next month, so decided to buy it and don't regret it. I watched this last night, alone in the house, lights out, sound cranked and it was terrifying! eek.gif The movie, audio and video all came together for one of those all to rare great all around experiences and really freaked me out. Loved it! cool.gifWarning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
that large doll was one of the creepiest things I have seen in a horror film! The scene where the little girl gets trapped in the room with the doll sitting on the woman's lap was nuts!
Not to mention the Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
scene where the girl gets her leg pulled hard and then is seeing something in the dark corner of her room eek.gif
This will get regular rotation everyone Halloween for me now and I will probably give it another spin next week before Thurs as the movie is great overall and the A/V is fantastic I thought.

Ralph, you sure got some balls of steel if this isn't one of the scariest films you ever seen because this sure had my heart racing non stop. I remember 30-45mins in and checking the time stamp to see how much more would i have to endure. The SQ and bass in this movie was over the top and a great halloween movie. Glad i bought this blind based on Ralph's review, thanks.

I still don't understand how Annabelle got anything to do with the rest of the story.

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

So, as explained in the early Ed/Lorraine sequence the doll isn't alive, the demon moved it around to make the girls accept it and get permission to possess them. A conduit if you will. While battling Bathsheba, Lorraine left her locket in the cellar which was paired spiritually to her daughter, another kid to kill, Bathsheba went to that locket and while there found the doll and was able to move it to get close and attack.

So the doll served two purposes. To introduce us to the Warrens and an attack vector.

Thanks for the explanation. I "get" those two parts but still I find it to be "forced" into the story, the teaser posters, the trailers, etc.

I'd like to comment on other stuff but I don't know how to create a spoiler tag when using BlackBerry (the browser doesn't give me that option and I can't remember the html tag for it)
