The pins looked like uncle Joe's crocket teeth, no matter how I jiggled the pins around they just did not mate!
What ever, finally forced it in, so now only one of the opticals turns on and opens, looks like I'll be reopening the case AGAIN, unless it's something I can do else where?...
I see you have learned about these cheap adapters first hand
I warned you
You can make them work but they are far from good. Which did you buy or do you need? I can send you a better one if you want it (and I have it spare). Otherwise, let me know what you need I will give you a good link. I think I have tried them all.
And another thing I noticed the 4TB hard drive is no where to be found, after I did the whole management thing so it could be recognize, do I have redo it again??? I wonder if I never saved it at the configuration at the end, strange.
First step is to make sure it is powered and connected to a sata port. Second step is then go into the BIOS and see if it shows there. If it does, you are good so far. If it does not, you don't even need to go messing around in windows because the problem isn't there yet. If the drive shows up in BIOS (it should show up even if it's not formatted) then boot into windows and open disk management (my computer->manage->disk mgmt) and bring it online. You should choose GPT disk - (not MBR or Dynamic) and then format it. This will cause it to show up.
The one optical not turning on, which might be a loose wire, which I tried to avoid by tightening all cables before closing the case.
Sounds like a lose power wire. Since the inside is growing and you need more SATA power wires I would advise getting an adapter to make it easy on you. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812162011
Something like that works great. I have an extra one so PM me where to send it. It's yours if you want it. Has capacitor built in which is nice for many hard drives that might draw power on spin up- but your PSU is plenty enough anyways.
Purchased MCM to get my info, cover art, metadata, year, imdb etc. which I should be loving, I have to set it up correctly so it can retrieve all the magic.
I know I have to make folders so it can find all my movie files, the thing is I have 4 hhds, do I name all the folders the same thing in each hhd?
I have mine set up by type or category. For example: TV SHOWS, HD MOVIES, NON HD MOVIES, BR RIPS, KIDS MOVIES, etc... Then when I get new media I put it in the right spot. I have categories for exercise videos, and I even broke down TV shows into mine and my wifes since we like different stuff. You can do it anyways you want but I like having everything together. Once flexraid is set up and working you won't have different hard drives, you will only have 1 big hard drive. So in that case if you create the exact same name on two hard drives it will be pooled into one. Example: On HDD #1 you have folder called "movies" and on hard drive #2 you also have folder called movies- then when flexraid is pooling you would have a single folder called movies but inside would be the contents from both drives.
I did get a little brave and made a folder called Children, & Animations, but it concerns me a bit that I may make a mess of it all if I continue naming, and making folders. I tried to manually scan it, and find the folder but no dice.
As long as you set MCM to check with you to confirm the search results (in the settings enable this) you can make sure it gets tagged right. If it is tagged right, then no fear in renaming (it should be right). The problem I run into is when MCM gueses wrong and then renames it wrong and I can't figure out what it really is to fix it. That sucks. For that reason I make MCM check with me with a pop up window confirming each search result (even if there is only 1 result)
If you do this then renaming should never be a problem. You can always move movies or movie folders or combine them in the future with simple copy and pasting. It might take a while for a lot of data, but other than that it's not hard at all.
Thanks I keep telling myself self it's just a matter of time before all this becomes child's play, and you'll have the front end to be proud of.
It will take you some playing around before you learn and figure out what you want and how you like things.
