I saw a 65" yesterday, the banding was present, but barely in the store with the demo loop running. Very noticeable when the AVCHD patterns were displayed from my USB drive.  I'm sure if I had brought the set home without knowing about the banding issue, I would have found it quite quickly once I calibrated the set. The set on display had a manufacture date of October 2013.

I personally own this tv. I don't see any bands. This tv replaced a 1st gen sony plasma because the 1 hdmi ports doesn't seem to work anymore.

I've only seen 3, all had the banding, no one any better or worse than the others.

What is the manufacture date on your set? Have you looked for the bands (4 vertical equally spaced)? I'm in the market for a set, and waited for this to be released, but balk at ordering one just to have to return it in  a few days. At these prices the sets should be near perfect.

Interesting that someone thinks this TV is one of the best 4K UHDTV's of this year: http://hdguru.com/the-best-hdtvs-and-4k-uhdtvs-of-2013/

Have not seen the set and had high hopes for it but the banding issues are a concern.

I've seen 4 reviews, 1 complete, all stated the same, its the best of the crop. Not one mentioned the banding.

If they dont give a good review they dont get a set to review next time.

Do you actually believe this?eek.gif I've seen reputable magazines ding electronics and they continue to review products from those manufacturers.smile.gif

I saw one review where they did mention the bands (don't remember which one off hand), and I've seen two different sets at 2 different BB stores and they both had the issue. I must admit the first time I looked at the set before I read about the bands I didn't notice them, but sure enough after knowing they were there I saw them pretty easily. I'm sure i would have noticed though if I bought it and took it home and ran a bunch of material through it. I'm convinced all of them have it and it seems to be in the same positions on all the sets, so I still theorize it is some sort of hardware assembly in the back showing through. Hopefully Panasonic is listening and remedies the issue.

The 4th set I've seen last night also has the bands. The store sold one of them, and returned 2 back to their warehouse, this one they unboxed last Thursday.

I spoke with Panasonic's concierge last week, they deny the bands exist.

I'm going to wait for next years offerings for a 4k set, and pickup a 1080p set to replace my dying Samsung LED.

Uh ohh, I thought this would happen. Ever since the first reports went unanswered on the Panasonic web page after they said they'd "look into it", I figured they would try and sweep it under the rug. Panasonic knows this issue would be very costly and time consuming to fix, what a pity. I wonder what their return rate will be, and if the TV will sit at a whopping $5,500 the entire holiday season.

I'd be tempted to give it a try if it dropped down to maybe the $4,000 range. Paying full MSRP for a set with a known issue doesn't sit well with me.

IMO, even at $4,000 its no bargain with the banding issue. I don't know if there are other issues like flashlighting, varying black levels, and blotches. There are a lot of very good 1080p panels for a lot less.

I find this very disappointing on Panasonic's part as they seemed to have got their act together last year.

This is an interesting read on the TV:

http://www.reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?107620-Panasonic-TC-L65WT600-4k-monitor-with-Displayport

Basically, if those guys are right, this banding issue is a design problem with non-continuous and inferior "edge lighting". If true, means all the sets will have identical issues and will just be a "characteristic" of the screen that nothing can be done about.

did you look at the picture on c-net

http://reviews.cnet.com/flat-panel-tvs/panasonic-tc-l65wt600/4505-6482_7-35827200.html

that's a lot worse than any I've seen.

soo, do you think I should buy another brand 4K (Samsung, Sony, Philips, LG) instead of Pany ?

only you can answer that. what is your tolerance for any of the issues presented? (clouding, banding, flashlighting, rainbow effects, variable black levels, HDMI 2 issues, poor off angle viewing for both 2D and 3D). Peruse the respective sets threads and you will get a good idea of the strengths and weaknesses of each.

each set has its pluses and its minuses, and IMO of the sets I've had home, or viewed quite thoroughly in store (Sony, LG, Samsung, Panasonic), none are worth the prices they are asking. These sets should be near perfect. I cannot comment on Sharp or Toshiba's 4k offerings as I have not seen them.

Um...I never win anything, but i guess that just changed. I just won the Panasonic TC-L65WT600 giveaway from their Facebook page:
https://www.wf-site.com/microsite/pages/114dca598077db75

As soon as I receive it, I will let you know how I like it. I will post pics of the vertical bars. Especially since I got it for free. Honestly, I'd rather have the TC-P65VT60 plasma since I already have the VT30 and I couldn't care less about 4K, but we'll see how much I like the WT600 and how much the vertical bars bother me.

Wow, you just won a $5,000 TV and don't sound very excited lol. Let me know when you put it up on Ebay.. tongue.gif

No, seriously how much you want for it? wink.gif

Look's like BestBuy dropped the price to an even 5K. Wonder what it will go to around Christmas, maybe 4K?
Sorry guys. Didn't mean to sound like I wasn't excited. I am super excited! When I wrote that post, I had just read all 7 pages of people talking about the vertical bars. biggrin.gif

Free is FANTASTIC and I will definitely be hooking this up.

The side speakers make it a deal breaker for me and others. Also, in terms of features the Panny blows it away, if it weren't for those band issues...

I liked the speakers on the x900a. Personal preferences I guess. What I did not like was the limited ability to get 4k media to the set. The apps and the USB inputs were all limited to 1080p, the HDMI inputs were limited to 3840x2160 @ 24fps. So short of buying the X1 and paying for expensive rentals and purchases, or buying a very expensive PC with 4k capabilities you were upscaling 1080p.

The deal breaker for me was 2 failures in less than 2 weeks, the 1st set went up in smoke less than 3 days in, the 2nd developed a line of dead pixels roughly 4" from the bottom.

I've seen 3 of these T600's at the local BestBuy, all three had the bands, and one had very bad clouding issues.

Yes it is definitely a personal preference, for me the speakers are a deal breaker because of space constraints...to go with the Sony I could only do the 55", and that one I don't want at all with its 540p 3D and all..

Seems like there is no clear cut choice right now...I think the LG is my new favorite after seeing it this past weekend. Only drawback is no HDMI 2.0 solution as of yet, and what it will entail exactly if and when it comes.

someone there had the same problem, it was a video card setting that had to be changed.

does your set have the banding issue? what is the manufacture date?

if I remember, the latest drivers for the video were a must. the setting for the video had to be 3840 x 2160 @ 24 or 30fps on the pc. the hsync was 60 hz for the sony.

its a very long thread, you may get some better results searching for display port.

check to see if there is an input resolution setting chart in the manual. under hdmi it should tell you what to set the video card to.

I spent a good while looking at this TV at BestBuy today, and I was expecting it to be horrible from all the info out there. What I saw was completely the opposite. The two black bars on the end of the display don't bug me, and I didn't see any banding in still images, though in motion video I saw it, but I wouldn't put it past the source material.

I'm going to use this as a computer monitor to replace my GT25 plasma I have used since 2011. I think with the 4:4:4 input its really the only 4K TV option for use with a PC.

Yeah don't let all the talk here discourage you from this set...as I stated earlier, I didn't notice the banding until I heard about them from others, then only when I looked for them could I see them. They are subtle and probably would never be noticed by 99.9% of the population, this really is an enthusiast group here that nitpick everything about the visual quality (incl myself). And I agree, for a PC this is really the only option right now, but I have a feeling you will see plenty more options come CES. For a TV, the 4:4:4 sounds great but I have serious doubts we will see any content to take advantage of that anytime soon.
