HTPC Build. What do you think?

Hey guys, I'm in the market of building a new HTPC because my wife decided to pour water in our last one--yes it was accidental wink.gif. I'm looking to put either ubuntu XBMC on it or Win 7/8 with JRiver. I haven't decided yet (and the cost of windows is really the only reason I'm not going for the JRiver setup. JRiver is uber sweet.). I went a little cheap on the motherboard, but while looking around at the different chips, I really couldn't find any disadvantages of the H81 for an HTPC setup. Except that it doesn't have an optical out, but I'm more than likely am going to use the HDMI for digital audio out anyway. I am 20% Movies, 40% TV Shows, 40% Music kind of guy. Let me know what you guys think!

Intel Core i3-4330 Haswell 3.5GHz LGA 1150 54W Dual-Core Desktop Processor Intel HD Graphics 4600 $149.99

ASUS H81M-E LGA 1150 Intel H81 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 uATX Intel Motherboard $61.99

SILVERSTONE Black Aluminum / Steel ML04B Micro ATX Media Center / HTPC Case $69.99

(Refurbished) OCZ Vertex 4 VTX4-25SAT3-64G.RF 2.5" 64GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) $54.99

Crucial Ballistix Tactical Tracer 4GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory (with Orange/Blue Light) Model BLT4G3D1608DT2TXOB $39.99

Rosewill CAPSTONE-450-M 450W Continuous @ 50°C, Intel Haswell Ready, 80 PLUS GOLD, ATX12V v2.31 & EPS12V v2.92, SLI/CrossFire Ready, Modular Active PFC Power Supply $69.99

2x Cooler Master Rifle Bearing 80mm Silent Cooling Fan for Computer Cases and CPU Coolers $11.98 (Total).

Total (with shipping): $475.55

Thanks!

Your power supply is overkill and with the fact your load will be consistently under 20%, the 80+ Gold rating will not apply.

Take a look at this PSU: http://www.amazon.com/FSP-Group-Certification-Supply-FSP300-60GH/dp/B004VF4R4U/ that while SFX, comes with an ATX adapter and frees up a lot of room in your case. I've used this in many mini-ITX builds and it works great.

You could also use a picoPSU. If the i3-4330's power consumption is anything like the i3-3225, the picoPSU-90 with 90W AC adapter will be plenty.

Yeah I kind of figured that. What really attracted me to the Rosewill was the 140mm fan and the reviews that said it was super quite. But the power supply you linked could save me $25. I'll look into the picoPSU some more too. Thanks!

Seems like a very nice build!

I am curious on what made you select the power supply that you did? Not that it is a bad choice, but I don't know if that is something I would use in an HTPC.

EDIT: You beat me to the punch...

Also, Are you planning to use an Optical Drive (BR/DVD)?

Consider these PSU's: While smaller fans, they are still quiet.
