Harman Kardon 1650 vs Denon Denon AVR-E200

Hello all. I have an old 9 year old Kenwood 6.1 receiver that I want to replace. Was purchased at radioshack as part of a HTIB. I replaced the speakers with energy classic speakers and now want to replace the receiver.

i want a decent receiver for around $200 - 250. I will be connecting my directv box, ps3 and computer to it.

Which of these two receivers would you recommend? The MSRP of the HK is around 500, but Newegg has it for 200 right now. Denon is 250 at amazon.

Denon has the pass through feature which would be important for me to have. I usually use the home theater for watching movies and games, not for regular programming. I will however buy the HK if it is a noticeably better receier than the Denon.

If you know of other decent receivers in the price range, feel free to list them here.

the Denon e300 is currently $199 at Fry's. No reason to get the lesser e200 which doesn't even have room correction software nor networking capabilities.

Thanks for your reply.

I checked frys.com and the denon e300 is 399 there. Where did you see that it was 199? I am thinking that it is a store only deal. I am in the northeast and we do not have any frys here.

Does the HK 1650 have correction software and networking?

No networking but I think it does have its own calibration software.

Here is the ad, Its already been confirmed the $199 receiver is the Denon e300. I think you may be able to order it by calling Fry's using this number. 877-688-7678. Sale ends Thursday but I'd advise you to call now to see if they have any left in stock.

I guess I will just wait for the Denon E300 to come down in price. Pass through feature is something I really want to have.

Some posters in other threads mentioned that the E300 will be coming down in price , perhaps even down to $149. Any truth to that? Anyone know approximately when that might happen?

thanks!
