ZT60 Manufacturing Screen Defect!?!

Wow. Just...wow.

My 65ZT60 arrived this afternoon. Watched them take it from the box and set it up, all while being very very careful. Afterwards I inspected it, and found that huge defect in the glass.

Panasonic claims that the ZT60 uses all those hand picked parts, hand picked glass, etc. Hence the huge price tag and limited availability. Looking at this, I suddenly find their claims to be VERY suspect. How the hell did this pass inspection?

Sent it back immediately. Not sure what to do now. Any Panasonic reps have an answer? Between this and the reported fan issues, how much time REALLY went into making sure these were truly "Studio Master Panels"???

*EDIT: this is not a cracked screen, the front glass is smooth, this occurred behind the glass panel

definitely sucks. but that does look like something that could have happened after assembly, maybe even after shipping. looks like what the aftermarket tint on my back window looks like after 3yrs of hot summers and cold winters...

With the ZT60 series, as we all know, to create the no-air gap, the glass is fused to the assembly. From the looks of it, the process didn't take. It may passed initial inspection but something happened between then and you receiving the unit. I'd be making a warranty call ASAP or return it to the dealer you bought it from and get a replacement.

The problem with posting in the owner's thread is stuff gets lost at this point. At the rate everybody posts, a genuine question seems unlikely to get spotted except by a few users. Not to mention, I think a generalized " issues" thread for each model isn't a bad idea.

However, just to update: I have since gotten a replacement ZT60 and it's awesome. Best TV I've ever owned, period. So hopefully this was an absolute fluke. Thanks for the input though everybody!

OP were you the gentleman that originally posted this problem and picture in the ZT60 owners thread?

I spotted a post like this and wanted to keep tabs on this problem because I just took delivery of my ZT60 and ive been worrying about my ZT60 developing this problem.....

Any updates? Did Panasonic replace it? What did they say caused it?

And yes this problem does deserve its own thread. Its a very very BIG problem for folks who throw down $5000 on tv to see cracks in the display

Since it was noticed on delivery, ABT took it back and delivered another one without questions. No issues since aside from fan noise, which is minor and somebody being sent out to my place to fix onsite.

Bickering removed. Stay on topic, please. Keep the personal stuff out of it.

That said, always try to resolve a problem in an owner's thread before creating a new post.

Ty. Genuine question though: I tried asking questions or getting info from owners thread, just seems so massive. After a day your question becomes buried. But I don't want to nag and repost. How should I approach?

Hey so did you get an explanation how the cracks appeared? Was it the special bonding process?

Unfortunately no, but as others have suggested, it must have had something to do with the fusing process. I imagine temperature fluctuations may have caused the issue, but that's purely a guess. Like I mentioned, this was behind the glass, as the front glass was smooth, not cracked.

This has happened at least 3 times now to AVS forumgoers, but yours seems to be the only one that noticed it upon delivery (the other 2 cases developed later).

A forum member posted a UK bulletin regarding the fracturing glass. See this post: http://www.avsforum.com/t/1474480/official-zt60-owners-thread/6800_50#post_24221102

^Thanks, I suppose posting it here would've made more sense...so I'll go ahead and do it now.

This is huge news for ZT60 owners. Does make me worry less about my display cracking because I havent removed the back panel at all.

I recommend any owners planning on fixing the fans with a mod be extremely delicate re-assembling the back panel OR not bother with fixing the fans at all.
