So my tv arrived yesterday (50 inch) and as it turned out, the damn stand column was missing from the box! Had to deal with Best Buy's godawful customer support who couldn't manage to find a solution for it, other than to return the tv entirely. They even put me on the phone with Sharp where I was told that they can't do a thing about it because it must taken care of directly from Best Buy themselves.
If it's possible, could I ask a kind soul here who's wall mounted their tv to ship me their stand column? I would gladly pay shipping and a little extra just for the help. I don't have the option to wall mount it and I really don't want to go through the hassle of packing it all up to get a new one, JUST for the stand column. I'd truly appreciate it.
EDIT: PROBLEM SOLVED! After being put through all the nonsense from Best Buy's support, I picked up the tv's remote and noticed that it had a product support phone number on the backside. Called it and they put me on with a Sharp rep almost immediately and he got my issue sorted out within 5 minutes. A stand kit is on the way, via ground shipping. So to those of you with any kind of issues, do NOT waste your time calling Best Buy!
I'll add my thoughts on the tv now:
The picture is beautiful straight out of the box. It's a good idea to tweak one of the presets that you find the most visually pleasing, I find most are pretty bright but that's only because I have it in a bedroom. AV Mode: Standard is a great preset, contrast and backlight just need to be lowered a tad. Blacks are as black as the bezel.
The dark edges are there but you'll only notice them during extremely bright scenes i.e. white backdrop. And even then, it's not that much of an issue. As others have mentioned, it probably only seems most noticable when brightness is jacked WAY up.
FOR THE GAMERS. This one is probably the most important for you guys. The tv is absolutely INCREDIBLE for gaming. I'm a HUGE gamer and was a bit worried about possible input delay but there is practically none whatsoever when you select AV Mode: Game. I tested a variety of PS3 games like Megaman 10 (retro 2D platformers are a great test for input delay), Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike (felt as good as playing on a CRT), Dragon's Crown, Diablo 3, Battlefield 3 and others and they all played flawlessly. Games look and play great via component inputs too. I absolutely recommend this tv for anyone looking to invest in a great gaming tv.
Sound is great too for how thin it is. It's not as tinny as my 46" Samsung or my sister's 40" Westinghouse. It actually puts out some nice bass and voices are crystal clear. It also puts out a LOT of sound at low levels.
Totally content with my purchase. I actually went in with low expectations, consdering the price I paid and because I didn't think it would hold a candle to my 240hz Samsung LED. If anyone has any other questions, I'd be happy to answer them (along with the other content owners here, I'm sure!).
