Placing TV on edge of wall mount

Hello everyone. First off, I apologize as this situation seems to have been discussed a lot; however, I couldn't seem to find the answer to my question in my searches.

Question: if I attach the wall mount to two studs, is it safe to place the tv on the edge of the mount?

Additional info:
In the attached pic, the 3 studs (24" apart) are marked by small pieces of tape. I've also marked the outline of the VESA holes as shown by the large square and you can see the position of the mount if it were to be attached the center and right studs. Is this ok? Should I attach the mount to additional drywall anchors? Or is this just a bad idea?

From my previous searches, most people recommend installing a plywood backing. However, if I place plywood across the 3 studs, then that will be wider than my 40" Samsung LCD. Also, it would cover the existing outlets.

Your thoughts/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

What do the manufacturer's instructions say?

The instructions don't say anything about location of the tv on the mount. Regarding mounting, it just says to place the hooks securely onto the top lip of the mount.

Also, if this matters, the mount is a Cheetah APTMM2B purchased from Amazon.

If the mount is secure to the wall it should not matter

Well then, you should be good to go.

40" TV? What's it weigh? Probably not a lot. I'd use the center stud and a couple of Togglers.

Hey--thanks for the responses. I went ahead and attached the mount to the center and right studs and placed the tv on the left edge of the mount. But there's still the problem of the mount showing. So, I'll either think of a solution to cover the mount, or might try olyteddy's suggestion about the Togglers (TV is about ~30 lbs). Or, use this as an excuse to buy a larger tv!

Center stud and duct tape on the ends would hold that just fine (just kidding) If it is mounted in a stud in the center, any kind of dry wall anchors will suffice on the ends, but I do love the Hiliti Togglers (over kill for this applications )
