I'm trying to find a place for a room-facing AV closet in my theater, but the only good spot for it is at an early reflection point.  My plan is to cover the area with heavy velour drapes rather than panels.  According to http://www.limelightproductions.com/tips/curtains_acoustics_tips.html these have a reasonable absorption coefficient at mid-to-high frequencies.  I also like the look.  Do you think they will be sufficient to reduce the reflections?  What frequencies matter for early reflections?  If you think I need panels, do you have any ideas for what to do instead of the closet (see attached model)?  I could just put the stuff on shelves in the room but it would look less classy, and introduce noise and light.  Or I could just store all the stuff in the mechanical room, but then you'd have to go into the mechanical room to change physical media.  Thoughts?
