Looking to upgrade my HT speakers

Hello All. I'm currently looking to upgrade my main HT system that is the familys main TV and used for movies and TV (no music). I don't really know too much about all the new stuff that is out and thats because I try to stay away from it unless I'm actively looking otherwise I'd continually want to upgrade and my wife wouldn't be too happy.

I purchased my initial system about 8 years ago and its served me well but its a little on the low side, and I want something with fuller clearer sound. My current set up is:

Receiver : Onkyo TX-SR607

Front Channels: Polk Audio Monitor 50 x 2

Center Channel: Paradigm CC-270 v.3

Rears: Monitor 30 x 2

Sub: Paradigm PDR-8 v.3

The room these are placed in about 20x20, that is completely open on two sides due to an open floor plan

| R           R

|   couch

|

|  L TV  R

|__________

We sit about 12 feet from the front deck, and about 4 feet from the rear deck. I realize that the front decks don't match but in my youth I didn't realize they needed to and thought that getting a really good center channel would make for really full crisp dialogue during movies. But its too big for my entertainment center and it sits on the floor in front of the TV.

The receiver was just upgraded a little over a year ago so I could go all HDMI (htpc, ps3, cable). And the system was tuned with the audassy mic. It sounds ok but not great.

I was thinking about upgrading the front deck only for now, and leaving the rears and subs for later. If possible/optimal I'd like to keep the center channel since I think its a good speaker, but if I would get better sound upgrading all 3 to match then i shall do it. My current budget is low. Only $1200-1600, so I'm not looking for anything even higher mid range but I'm hoping I can find something in that range that would be a good upgrade.

I don't care if the speakers are tower or bookshelf, but I have the space for towers. I recently went and listened to Martin Logan Motion 20s at the local best buy and thought they sounded great. I don't know if I am using the right terminology but they sounded "full" with lots of depth and clarity. But that was with a music demo and don't know how they work with movies. I thought they sounded MUCH better than the Definitive Technology - SuperTower 3-1/2" that I also demoed. But the Martin logans are the high end of my budget and don't leave room for the center deck.

The other option I was considering was getting the Bose setup which was $1400 that comes with the 5 passive cubes and sub with new reciever. But when i demoed them in the store they felt meh. Any help or suggestions that you guys could provide would be MUCH appreciated.

Any help

Look at Focal, with the Focal center channel

Timbre (voice) matching the fronts, is recommended

I've never heard of focal. Are the ones listed as accessories4less the same as these from amazon? http://www.amazon.com/Focal-Chorus-714V-Floorstanding-Speaker/dp/B001ASBPO6/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1383745040&sr=8-3-fkmr0&keywords=FOCAL+Chorus+814v

THe ones on amazon are half the price.

Are the Martin Logan Motion 20s not as good?

Also. I know Polk is a lesser brand but are the RIA7 or RTI9's any good? Or are they not in the same league as Focal or Martin Logan

I would seriously consider these Ascend Sierra LCR in the AVS classifieds.http://www.avsforum.com/t/1498029/ascend-sierra-1-monitors-lcr-with-stands

These are incredible speakers, in immaculate condition, and would be a very big upgrade over your current speakers. You can get all three well within your budget, and even have room to get a new sub as well.

Being such a big, open space, it will take some serious horsepower to give you adequate bass in that room. I would start out with a PSA XV15, and ideally add a second down the road. It will give you deep powerful bass and have great output. Your current surrounds are fine for now, the real bread and butter of HT is the sub and center.

I can't do Cherry. I need a black finish to match entertainment cent and accent furniture. Do you have any opinions on the Motion 20s vs Polk RTI9s?

I have only heard the Motions briefly, but the Polk RTi series seems to be a good upgrade from the Monitor series from what I've read. The Polk Ebay store sells refurbished speakers and you could get a really good deal on some nice speakers.

A pair of these RTiA7: http://www.ebay.com/itm/RTiA7-BLACK-Tower-Speaker-Polk-Audio-EACH-/360784494564?pt=Speakers_Subwoofers&hash=item54006e7fe4
And a matching CSiA6: http://www.ebay.com/itm/CSiA6-BLACK-Center-Channel-Speaker-Polk-Audio-/390681424421?pt=Speakers_Subwoofers&hash=item5af66d7225

This woud set you back about $1100, leaving you enough room for a better sub, something like the SVS PB-1000 would be a great choice.

The Focal speakers at AC4L have bigger woofers - that is the reason for the price difference

Polk is a good brand for those who like Polk - the RTi is better than what you have

I would lean towards Focal - however, Martin and Polk may float your boat.

No one can speak for your ears.
