I plan to try out (again) the A-400 (and I've owned A-300, A-210 and A-110), so I'm not biased either way. But, at this point, if you don't need Plex and Mede8er's TV/movie jukebox options (Y2M or its built-in scaper) look good to you, I don't see a reason to pay more for the A-400 vs. getting a 600X3D.
In terms of poor authored MKV's i think most of the depends on the source. If someone is self ripping all MKV files will be reliable. I have not yet come across something that the A400 would not play that the mede8er could. But then again all my media is from reliable source.

Not overly concerned about GUI or extra features. Simply want ease of use, stable playback in 2D and 3D MVC, and everyone be able to do it with one remote from the couch (Harmony 900).
Plex is for people that have multiple systems. Be it multiple streaming devices or tablets/ps3's/tv's/phones. When you run a plex server it makes a front end for pretty much almost any device out there and from there it will transcode media on the fly for devices like a tablet that might not support all the codecs. Its a central media management system. If you are only playing to one device most likely not worth your while.
Any device you pick will do what you want and what you need. You are just looking if you want any of the added fluff the A400 brings vs what the mede8er brings. When it comes down to basic playback its a win win either way. So you will not be picking a bad choice. I will say the android/ipad app on the PCH is very nice to use I pick it over a remote control any day. I assume the ipad app on mede8er is same way I dont own an ipad so have never gotten the chance to use.
The way to decide is first look at price if price is no matter, think do you really need any of the extra stuff the a400 has over the med. Do you play a lot of SD material, will you ever use the 3rd party apps like soundcloud, tunein, radio, youporn. Is any of the added formats like DSF important to you.Edited by halfelite - 11/8/13 at 9:19am
