speakers inside the F38310

do the side speakers in these things run any risk of picture interference? I had them turned off but have been using them for dreamcast games currently (going to get some longer rca's soon).

I seriously doubt it! I'm sure that all internal speakers are properly shielded to prevent this from happening. Not saying it couldn't happen, but I would think that if they could cause interference that it would happen if they were 'turned on' or not.

They're supposed to be shielded, so no worries. For any reason they're not, it should be covered under warranty.

These speakers suck.. big time.

They are tiny little things -- If you open the page on my tube odysseyTube Pictures, scroll down to the one labled "removing tube", you can see one -- the yellow/green wire pair going up the side of the set attaches to it. They are maybe two inches wide and three inches long. I don't think they could be a problem.

We are opening up the set for a second replacement try this weeked -- I'll see if I can get a better picture.

Yep this TV is very sensative to unshielded speakers. My tube goes nuts when too close to my front speakers. A quick unplug fixes that.

Unplugging unshielded speakers will not "fix" the problem of magnetic interference. The magnet is permanent, and must be physically moved to reduce the effect.

No what I meant was even though you remove the source, you still have some destortion left. Where as unplugging gets rid of the remaining problems. Or until you put the source back.;)

To be even clearer -- he means "unplug the set" -- actually turning it on and off a few time is enough.

Every time the set is turned on, it degausses itself. Go to the picture I referenced above. See the black cable that goes around the front edge of the set and up the tube across the stem? There are two white ties on it -- Siegfried is removing one of them in the picture. This is a helmholtz coil. Basically, you run alternating current through it and it induces aalternating magnetic field that averages to zero. If the screen is magnetized, it wipes it out.

I have owned my set over a year, I have never listened to the speakers. I have my speakers in low impedence 30 Ohm Sennheiser HD-500 Headphones coming from a HTRF unit using the Haas effect, toltect processing, and Radio Shacks 42-2108 OOP Super Stereo Reverb a perfect marriage. :)
