Anybody excited for the Next-Gen Madden ?

I'm the guy that made the thread "I think next-gen Madden is in trouble" or something like that, but here I am with a new thread and a more positive attitude about this game. The more videos I watch of this game, the more I can't wait to get my hands on it and try it. I haven't owned a Madden game in so many years, that I don't mind it so much if this one isn't radically different than the current gen Madden, because I haven't played that game in years, so it will still be new to me regardless.

Still, I think if anybody else has been seeing the more recent videos, this game is really starting to look interesting to me...

Here is what I like:

1. Offensive / Defensive line play looks like it has improved by leaps and bounds.

2. Love how the helmet moves independently from the player. Looks more real that way.

3. The crowds, stadium and atmosphere seems to be getting a huge shot in the arm.

4. Uniforms and field looks really nice and beautiful.

5. Weather effects (rain / snow), looks really nice

Here is what I don't like:

1. Too many fans are repeating in the crowd, despite EA talking about them being super varied.

2. 90 percent of the graphical wow is most likely only apparent during replays

3. Most of the Quarterbacks look really weird / not like the real life counterparts

Regardless, I'm super excited to try this game, and can't wait to see the reviews that come out for it. If the game gets solid 8's or better from reviewers that I feel I can trust, then I'm definitely picking this puppy up. I'm hoping against hope that it won't be an abomination.

I want to be, but after getting burned many times i just don't know. Like you I have not bought a Madden game in probably 3 or 4 years and the itch is there, I just don't know if i am going to scratch it. I guess the one saving grace for it is with the Target B2G1 it might make getting it a little less painful.

Its the only game im getting at launch on the 15th (PS4). I havent bought a madden game in 5 years.

LOL. it would've been better to have 1 Madden thread instead of a like madden thread and a don't like madden thread.

Have you seen the recent videos ? Some of the recent stuff I've been seeing looks amazing to me. Again, I've been out of the loop since Bret Favre was on the cover of Madden, so that was like Madden 09 or something. So maybe current gen has some of this really cool stuff already, and I'm just not aware of it. Regardless, I think if you watch the most recent videos for Madden, it's hard not to be somewhat hopeful that this could be a launch day surprise...

I too have been out of the loop for a while. One thing I do know is that my buddy will get it so I will just have to borrow his and make my decision then.

Hopefully there will be some reviews soon. I'm not going to buy Madden without seeing some reviews first. I might get Madden in that Target deal, but I'm not taking the plastic wrap off it until i see some reviews. I'd love to rent it at Redbox, but don't know how soon they will get those games.

It's quite a niche over here in the UK but it's growing in popularity.

I'm quite excited to see them implement SmartGlass with play-calling

So I picked this up, mainly only because I already had the 360 version and got to upgrade for $10, and it's definitely a step up from the 360 version. That being said, the changes are subtle and not nearly as dramatic as you'd hope for. Visually, there's not much of a change on the field during gameplay, but the crowd is better (that's not saying much though). The SmartGlass / "CoachGlass" companion is awesome though. It's pretty cool to see your own tendencies on it... though admittedly I'd like to diagram plays and hot routes on it.

Running is better, blocking is MUCH better, and it's actually (finally) possible to get some sacks from time to time. Overall though, it's really just a tweaked version.

I also did the $10 upgrade deal. Havent tried SmartGlass yet, thanks for the suggestion.

The Kinect voice commands are pretty cool, which I assume are similar to the 360 options but I never had 360 Kinect. Playing online with a friend can be tricky obviously, you want to mute before calling audibles although they will see your formations change. But, you can yell "Hut hut" to try them offsides, was really making my buddy mad.

One thing that I've discovered that I hate is that the system records a game clip every single time a touchdown is scored, no matter how mundane it is. Also, EA's system of loading 5 different files at the title screen, then connecting to the EA server, and checking a few more files on their server, even before you get to the main menu... that's still present just like the 360 version, and it's obnoxious. It generally takes about 2-3 minutes before I can get to a game.

Although one surprising impressive thing is that I was in the middle of an offline "play now" game last night, just screwing around to get some achievements. I turned the system off midway in the first quarter, and when I loaded Madden back up today after playing something else, it had saved my game to a file for me to load it from where I was last night.

Where and how are you doing the 10$ upgrade, Gamestop ?

I did it through Amazon.

I want to get a madden for Xbox 1 but I am not convinced this is actually a good game. I get the same vibe I did with the first madden on the 360. Am I incorrect, is it a good game?

I would say yes and no. It's not at all like what happened with the 360. The first Madden for 360 (06 I think?) was absolutely terrible compared to the original Xbox. They removed game modes, features, statistics, and delivered a completely gimped (but prettier) version of what they had for the original Xbox. As far as I'm concerned, even the gameplay was worse on the 360 for the first few years (though that's a personal preference).

Madden 25 for Xbox One and Xbox 360 are largely the same game. There's nothing on the 360 that isn't on the One. That includes all of the same exact modes and features of the 360 version. The gameplay is tweaked from the 360 version, but all for the better. That being said, it's not drastically different (see my comments above for that). Though it's probably worth noting that if you haven't played a Madden game since they switched to Nance and Simms, the commentary is now drastically better than it used to be (though after a while, of course, it still will end up getting a little repetitive).

If you're picking it up expecting a huge leap forward, that's a mistake. If you like the last generation versions though, you'll enjoy the next generation one a little more. The next generation one is definitely the best version ever... it's just that for some, that won't mean too much. Many of the flaws of the series are still there, so it's frustrating at times. Gameplay is nowhere near simulation (I mean hell, EA still hasn't gotten the coin toss right), online play is a crapshoot between EA's servers and people using the same cheap plays all the time, and the computer still cheats like crazy on the higher difficulties. Penalties are near nonexistent as well (especially pass interference).

If you're one of the people who's been able to look past that stuff in the past, you'll love this game. If you never have been able to, then you'll hate this.

(Personally, I'm still loving the Madden Ultimate Team stuff which I'm really getting into for the first time this year.)

No. Madden hasn't been good in quite some time - none of the football games have. They'll get some things working good or add a new, interesting element only to take it out or completely muck it up in the next year's edition.

What I'd really like to see are twists on the sports games, but we haven't seen those in years either. Games like Cyberball, Mutant League Football, or Deathblow.

For some reason Nance and Sims bother me after awhile. It seems they keep repeating a bunch of sayings over and over. I haven't played that many games for them to be repeating their phrases so much. So I decided to turn off the announcers completely, and just go with the stadium sounds and the PA announcer.

Well, that was fine for awhile, but then you'll start to notice that they keep playing the same 7 or 8 jingles over and over. I'm talking about the kind of little jingles that you hear when you go to a basketball arena or something. You know, like the very beginning of that Gun's and Roses song, or the beginning of that one AC/DC song. They only use about 7 or 8 different ones, and they keep recycling them over and over ad naseum, which is actually starting to get worse than the announcers, lol. So, I went back in and turned on the announces, but just lowered their volume quite a bit.

When will Tiburon ever get a clue about presentation ?

Thank you for the detailed response. I actually havent gotten a Madden since 06 as I preferred the NCAA better but the last one I got of those was 2 years ago and now it looks like the series is done due to contracts. So if I want a football SIM Madden would seem to be the only place to go and if this years is a good game I might as well go ahead and pick it up. Thanks!
