AT 4053b vs MKH 8050?

I'll be recording indoor dialogue this weekend and I wanted to get your thoughts.

Which would provide the best quality and sound? Is the 8050 worth the higher price point?

Thank you for reading. smile.gif

I never used an MKH 8050, but I can tell you that Audio Technica makes fine microphones. Even their $100 AT2020 model is excellent for voice work (and anything else). Thirty years ago you really did have to pay a lot to get a good quality mic. These days excellent mics are a commodity.

I don't think that either is necessarily the best for recording indoor dialog.

I would pick a RE 20 over either one for recording dialog. Its advantage is consistency and naturalness, while the others require carefully controlling source/mic distance to adjust and preserve.

The two mics you are looking at are more widely used for recording music from either vocalists or instruments.

What is the room where you are recording like?

What do you intend to do with the recording?
