Panny VT60 55" or Sammy F8500 51"?

Hey y'all, I'm at a dilemma here…I understand both have superb picture quality and black levels, and the Sammy can get a lot brighter but I'm at a toss between them… I mainly care only about picture quality for movies and gaming. I understand Panasonic has announced that they will no longer be making plasmas but what are your guys thoughts on these two TV's?

Thanks!

For movies, you will be very happy with the VT60, but for games you may want the extra brightness and lower ABL. The VT60 has lower input lag btw, making it a decent gaming solution.

Okay, thank you! I know the input lag on the Sammy is VERY high, but what about the Panny? Haven't seen any marks on that one yet?

the input lag on the f8500 in PC mode is actually pretty average. it's not great, but it's on par with most other displays these days. don't quote me on it, but I believe it's in the 60ms range when in PC mode. much better than the over 100ms range that it is in 'normal' mode.

I could again be remembering wrong, but I feel like I read the vt60 was somewhere in the 40's, so still better than the f8500, but it's not like one is unplayable and the other is perfect.

all that being said, I think the extra 4inches would be the most noticeable change between the two sets. so i'd lean towards the vt60 personally.

VT60 is very much playable at 40-something ms input lag.

Also, keep in mind that any input lag readings from Leo Bodnar input lag tester is much much higher on plasmas than they should be. That's because the differences in driving mechanisms between LCDs and plasmas. So, if someone says the VT60 has 40ish ms and that's according to the Leo Bodnar tester, that means the VT60 actually has VERY VERY good input lag. Yes, the Panasonic S60 and Samsung F5300/F5500 have lower input lags, but that doesn't mean the VT60 is unbearable when it comes to gaming.
