Help with Passive Sub Hook Up. . .

Thread Starter
Alright, I need some help setting up the last part of my backyard theater. I recently setup this theater with a Sony HD projector, a 92" screen, 5 surround speakers powered by a Pioneer 1019 AVR (7.1) and a Sony Blu-ray player. I have a passive 10" subwoofer laying around that I wanted to incorporate for the lows and I thought I could use and older Onkyo 5.1 AVR to power it. I have verified that both the sub and the AVR are functioning properly.

What I am needing help with is the connection between the two receivers. I've tried a sub cable from the Sub line out on the Pioneer to "CD" input on the Onkyo with no sound as a result. The connection from the Onkyo to the sub is from one of the front speaker channels to speaker terminals on the sub. This is the only type of connection on the sub.

Any ideas? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Here is a simple drawing in case my description is unclear:

Your connections sound correct. A couple of thoughts:
1. On the Pioneer AVR, make sure subwoofer is set to 'yes' and speakers are set to 'small'.
2. On the Onkyo AVR, make sure you've selected the CD input. Also:
- set front speakers to 'large' and subwoofer to 'none'; or
- select the "Pure Direct" (or similar) mode if available.

what model Onkyo? Does the CD input on the Onkyo have a left and right input? If it is a digital coax input and only has one connector that will not work. You would need to use an analog input, they are usually colored red (right) and white (left). Plug it into one side of them, set the input to that input and make sure it is analog, then make sure you use the corresponding left or right speaker output.
