Not odd for Walmart at all.

you mean they bought, put it on ebay for 800bux, and then gave up after nobody would pay over retail for something that wasn't that hard to buy, and returned it tongue.gif

That is certainly a possible and likely scenario.

Yes. it won't change anything for me. So far I still favor my XBOnes over my PS4. Of course that could change in the future.

Impressive things can be done with software to gain more impressive results. Hardware wise the XBox One and PS4 do not differ as much as many of you seem to believe. I have recently gained employment at a major game development studio and we are working on a title to be released this fall across the board and from what we see the hardware margin is closer than the public believes. Now software tweaks that's a different story if DX 12 is what they promise it may make an excellent addition.

The problem with that statement is that software is not platform specific while hardware is. I'll buy the hardware may not be too far apart, but the differences have been covered to death already. But software optimizations, other than specific to OS should be applicable to both.

You can't say the Xbox one has room for optimization and the PS4 has none.

Sadly this isn't neogaf and the mods here won't vet you, so we have no clue if you are telling the truth or trolling us.

My only questions, what framerate and resolution will each version of the game run at? Is your studio targeting parity like The Crew devs or are you going to push both platforms as best as you can?

I never said the PS4 had no room for improvement. Both of these systems are very closely matched one just has a tad bit more power on paper.

That's right there is no way for me to prove to you via this forum that I am indeed employed under a game developer, mostly due to NDA and I am not in the PR/Marketing dept of the company so yea that stinks.

And currently we are working to get the Xbox One SKU at 1080p and the PS4 version seems to be mostly stable now at 1080p. If one system does end up performing better then it will ship as such.

Thanks for the answer, you didn't dance around the question and kept it vague enough to have no idea what type of game it is, let alone what company you work for. I think I will trust you from now on when it comes to developer insight.

I take it the game is also coming to PC?

Funny you ask that. We had the option of picking a system to play the ge on to test the results thus far and myself not normally being a PC gamer (but since I landed this new gig have recently became one) I chose the PC version.

It is indeed coming to PC as well as PS3 and 360. However for the best realization of our game we would reccomemd playing it on Xbox One, PS4 or PC as on the last gen systems we had to sacrifice some of the mechanics. But of you haven't jump the next gen boat as I assume many people in the thread have actually, you will still have a great story and gameplay experience on the last gen tech.

Closer to the release window I may be able to loosen my lips. I will keep you guys posted.

That explains why you think the Xbox One and PS4 are close. When compared to each other there is a fairly large gap in several key areas, but add in PC and suddenly those gaps are next to nothing by comparison. (Seriously, what good is a .5TF GPU gap when 11TF cards are out there?)

Maybe you can confirm one question that everyone still has, just what is the PS4's CPU clocked at? (This may get Sony after you though, might be worth making a GAF account and doing it as stealthfully as you can)

Too funny indeed, I wouldn't be able to answer that as I do not know the exact numbers myself.

NPD for March is out, and this is the big one. This is the one I said was most important for knowing where the industry is heading back before launch. Needless to say, it does paint a picture.

http://m.neogaf.com/showthread.php?t=803922

Here is the neogaf thread and here are the interesting things.

Hardware

Xbone: 311k
PS4: 371k
Wii U: 70k
Vita: ~10k
3DS: 159k
Wii: 28k
PS3: 67K
360: 111K
PSP: 5k

Software

FFXHD -4:1 PS3/Vita
Yoshi's New Island <160kDark Souls 2<350k PS3 ~51%
MGSV: GZ =278k, PS4 ~ 54%, XBO ~ 20% (both combined 204k), PS3 ~ 19%
South Park: SoT< 440k, 360 55%
TitanFall> 1 million
Infamous: Second Son> 500k
Donkey Kong: Tropical Freeze - 84K (highest selling Wii U game)

Even with Titanfall bundled and discounts the PS4 pulled off what most (myself included) thought impossible, They outsold the Xbox One in their biggest month until November. This has to have the people at Xbox HQ in a panic, they threw everything behind Titanfall and it did not have the effect they wanted. (They called Titanfall a game changer and system seller) At this point Microsoft may have to accept that they will be in second place this gen.

The Nintendo news is even more bleak, they are tracking well below the Dreamcast at this point, it isn't even funny how poorly they are doing. I really hope they have a plan other than ride it out.

As for Sony, I can only imagine the party they must have thrown today. 7 million sold worldwide so far, making it the fastest selling console in history by a wide margin, and the best selling console in March, the most important month for sales until November. I still can't wrap my head around it, they have done what everyone thought impossible, and the thing is still supply constrained in most of the world.

And I still don't see what the doom and gloom is for the XBOne. It has been selling at a record pace. But unfortunately for MS, the PS4 has been selling at an even better record Pace. The XBOne sales are only bad when compared to the PS4. Which has had stratospheric sales. When the XBOne sales are compared to sales of past systems, it is doing well. It's obvious they can't match the PS4 sales. And of course only selling in one third of the countries doesn't help them any either. Not that it would make a gigantic difference anyway even it were sold in the same amount of territories as the PS4.

I just wish MS/EA would release the sales number for Titanfall. SInce there is no way to know what the numbers are otherwise. Since NPD does not include the games sales from Pack ins and Digital sales. So none of the Titanfall bundles or Digital sales are included in the NPD calculation. Sony announced the true sales number for inFAmous which included their digital sales(On March 29th it had exceeded 1 million sales including digital sales). But unless MS/EA announce their sales we will never know the actual sales numbers that Titanfall had.

Here is a link to the Infamous sales number.

.....So it comes with great excitement to learn that within the first nine days of launch, global sales of inFAMOUS Second Son exceeded over 1 million units*, making Second Son the fastest selling inFAMOUS title to date!
......
*Includes both Blu-ray Disc sell-thru quantities and download version sales on PlayStation Store as of March 29, 2014.

Yeah, I don't get it either. It's doing fine. Better than I thought, even.
The Titanfall sales listed in the Gaf NPD thread include bundle sales according to the person providing the numbers. So under a million without the bundle, over a million with it, and the PC version is not included (not that it matters according to them, the physical PC version was a bust) Add in digital and Titanfall probably sold 2-3 million across all platforms in March. (And with the 360 version now out, who knows how much higher that may go)

EA and Respawn made out with this (especially EA) Microsoft pretty much bankrolled a new multi million seller IP for them. From the massive marketing budget to the massive industry hype, EA and Respawn are poised to deliver Titanfall 2 to every platform as an established IP.

Microsoft on the other hand... Titanfall did not move units, sales actually dropped weekly in March vs February. The bundle was basically $110 off ($60 game plus $50 discount) which means they took a loss on each console sold. The goal is to sell consoles and in turn sell Live subs, they need a strong userbase to do that and they may not get it at the rate they are going. They have only shipped one million consoles to retailers in 2014, that is not good. They may still be under 4 million sold worldwide. And with their big game for 2014 out and sales already slowing, just what will they do to try and recover their momentum? They can't wait for E3, that never works (just ask Nintendo) they need something to reinvigorate the hype before then. April is a slow sales month, but it is the last month reported before E3, if they see another January situation, Sony could easily announce a 2:1 lead on the E3 stage, that would be a disaster for Microsoft if they could manage that.

the benefit for MS if games like Titanfall are successful is that an 'online only' game is going to make controlling piracy a lot more effective. I'm sure they're willing to lose a few bux to establish that style of game into the market, to avoid losing a lot of bucks of trying to combat piracy(I assume MS does actually spend money on this, not just game developers)
