i have a question about what i may need. 1st im kinda new to the whole home audio game, so when i set up my home audio i was kinda on a budget. i have a Yamaha rx-v575 receiver with the 5.1 set up. my front speakers are infinity beta 50's with smaller infinity rears, my sub is an Orion xtr 1000watt 10. it is a dual voice coil sub wired to make it 8 ohms and i put it in a bass reflex box and installed carpet on it to make it look nice. the wires from the sub are just joined into the wires of 1 side of my front speakers at the speaker terminals. My question is should i have just bought a powered sub or do i need and amplifier on the sub itself? it"s pretty loud already the way i have it set up, but not sure if i'm killing the receiver by having my speakers wired this way. any help would be much appreciated.
question about what i need or have done

People make products like that, such as Definitive Technology.
However DefTech adds crossovers to limit the bass to the upper range speakers, and powers the subwoofers with separate amplifiers and crossovers.
