I think you are late to the game. This series was designed to be like American Horror Story. Self contained stories that span one season. Then on to the next, with a different story, and actors (I do realize many of the same actors have appeared as different characters in multiple seasons of AHS though.)
Most A-list actors don't want to be tied down to multi-season projects, so this format sounds like a winner.
BTW, any critic that complained about the monologues in this show should be forced to watch Gigli on a loop.
I've grown to appreciate MM's acting more and more over the past few years, but his work on this show is mesmerizing.
