From the article "Although his move to Ferrari for 2014 was one of the main stories of the year, it was sad the way things ended with Lotus. Owed something in the region of €20m, he tried to settle for around €5m and even that proved a challenge for the financially strapped outfit."

I tried to find some current news about this, but it's like all F1 news stopped in Nov. I've warmed up to Romain a lot this season but it's going to be tough to root for Lotus at all. So much for Ijaz coming up with the cash. I figured, the guy is a OPM skimmer and perpetually one step away from BK.

Yeah, that info stopped me too.
Frankly, I think Kimi should have held Lotus to the 20m....I know I would have.
There is nothing worse than not being paid per employment contract.
Lotus made a promise to him they could not keep....and probably knew they couldn't.rolleyes.gif

Those are base salaries. They get more for wins, poles etc. But still you'd think he'd be on top of all the F1 lists by now. From Steve's link notice his endorsements. I don't think he cares about cash that much.

Note those numbers are as of June. Not a bad sum.

I'm still surprised the 2 VW brands are going to compete in prototype.....
Doesn't make a lot of marketing sense IMO.

Okay Okay!

Call Frank at Lopez Motors, he's got one. Its got one of them phones, you know, with a-- with a scrambler. And a radio with scanners, to pick out flying saucers, stuff like that.

Oh and don't forget the fog lights in case you get caught in the swamp. That's a good idea.

And I got you a Tee shirt.

No, but maybe intramural competition speeds up development which they can take advantage of for their production stuff. Also known as "I have no idea"

I think both brands have a different base. Will a potential Audi buyer cross shop a Porsche and vice a verca.

True, might even convince them to get one of each.

I can really see how a young professional (lawyer, physician, etc.) who traditionally buys Audis would one day have a mid-life crisis and go for a Porsche in the hopes of feeling young again.
In fact, I have seen it happen.rolleyes.gif

Anyway, you damn well bet there will/has been a lot of cross-engineering going on between the 2 brands regarding their prototypes.
And who can blame them?
VW is in the business of making MONEY....to think otherwise is silly.

According to a report earlier this month, Bernie mentioned F1 had been approached by an outside party about the possibility of establishing a team.....my fingers are crossed it was VW.
Unlike so many others, they have the money and engineering to make it happen.
Although I am not a fan of their street cars, I think it would be great for the sport.wink.gif

Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo has labelled F1 simulators a "joke" and would like to see the sport rely more on on-track testing.

Although next year's Championship will include several post-grand prix tests, in-season testing was banned back in 2009 in an attempt to curb costs.

The teams instead switched to simulators, plugging big money in the designs, which di Montezemolo says are more expensive than running out on track.

"It is a joke," the Ferrari president told Autosport. "We have been forced to invest a huge amount of money in these terrible machines, artificial, instead of testing here [at Fiorano] and Mugello.

"If somebody has no money to do tests, it is better to race in GP2, in go karts or go and play basketball. I want to do testing to first of all give new drivers the possibility to drive cars and get experience.

"But I also want to give more opportunities to the public because from one race weekend to another it is silent in F1. There is nothing, nothing.

"Testing is also a good opportunity for the sponsors, to call the public. And tests are less expensive than building and developing every month the terrible simulator. This is something we have to discuss for the future."

The Italian added that banning - or limiting - testing has hurt Formula One and played a direct role in this year's Pirelli tyre drama.

"I think in soccer if you want to compete in the Champions' League, you have to buy good players, you have to train sometimes even five times in a day. This is competition.

"I think that it is ridiculous that in F1, from one side, we are not allowed to test, and from the other side we are forced to spend a huge amount of money in the windtunnel in which we develop aerodynamics that I cannot transfer any of to my [road] cars.

"I don't want it to seem that I am a conservative old fan of F1. I think if we were allowed to do more testing, the scandal of the tyres [in 2013] would not have happened because even for Pirelli it is very difficult as they cannot do too many tests."

Thoughts anyone?

God knows, I am no expert about either simulators or on track tests. Still, di Montezemolo's criticism of the simulators makes sense. What the real, bottom line, cost of simulators compared to on track testing is, though, is anybody's guess.

Thanks for posting those ALMS Porsche pretty cool they are entering that class next year. I use to go all the time to Laguna Seca for ALMS and other events at that track, I am going to have to visit Mid-Ohio if ALMS comes here.

Unfortunately, the only way your going to see the Porsche and Audi is on TV,or maybe in Austin for the WEC race. No stop at Mid Ohio this year and P1 class is gone. :-(
