Title says it all

Currently have a TX-SR-605 and I realize I can use this for my new 3D TV and planned oppo BD103 BR player but I am looking at replacing it with better. I want hdmi 1.4, prefer newer vs older receivers that may require a lot of tweaking and tinkering. had strongly considered Sherwoood 972 but i just don't have time to fiddle as good as it is even though it is a bit older.

I want my new receiver to be simple to use just like my TX-SR605 has been, however one issue I have with the Onkyo is playing cd's with TV set off , I can only do so if I turn the TV system on and set receiver to dvd as if it is playing a DVD then cd's play music to system. I run all controls via a Logitech 650 remote, perhaps I have missed something.... However if I can replace the receiver for reasonable price I am in as it will not be done for a long time following

System HT system:

70" 3D Sharp LE757
klipsch WF34
klipsch WS24
klipsch WC24
Dual Emp Tek es1010i
LG BD570 > planned to replace with Oppo BD103

The 605 uses the most basic version of Audyssey 2EQ which cannot EQ a subwoofer (so even worse in your case with two of them) while any Denon or Marantz AVR that features Audyssey will use at least the next higher version of Audyssey MultEQ with 2x the speaker EQ filters as 2EQ and also able to EQ the subwoofer. The Denon X2000 with the even higher version of Audyssey MultEQ XT would likely be a good choice for your setup and inside your budget.

I'd look at Denon myself.

The NAD T748 receiver is what I would buy. I see it online for $499, and IMO it is by far the best you can get for that price.

It should give you better sound quality and has the features that many people use.

Will the NAD EQ my dual subwoofers like the Denon mentioned above? I will start reading a bit on each unit, can anyone offer feedback on the differences between both and strengths of either, seems they will be in similar price range

I noticed the NAD is 7x40w for HT and 2x80 in stereo, I may be interested in having a bit more power.

Any comments on the Marantz SR6006/7005 vs the Denon AVR x2000/3000? I have seen the X2000 at 479 shipped new, don't think the NAD is a choice unless i move up a model

Last if I stretch to an Onkyo TX NR818 at 669 shipped brand new I am guessing it is worth it to have ability to calibrate subs independently and do level and delay

Also the Sherwood R-972 is at $499 shipped, yes it is older but most bugs seemed to gone and it has Trinnov?
