Recommendations on a quite projector

Thread Starter
I bought myself a BenQ W1070 but discovered that it is way to loud for my taste. My brother has a BenQ W1000+ which is almost silent, I am so jealous of his projector. I have decided to sell my brand new projector and acquire a more quite projector! I do not want the projector to be audible. The fan noise should not be a disturbance, even in quite scenes or while one is surfing the internet.

Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Optoma's HD131xe/HD25/HD25-LV projectors are close to silent in Eco mode... However, if you want truly silent, the Epson 8345 or Epson 8350 are pretty much inaudible in their own Eco modes... even more so than the Optomas I mentioned.

Wow you're seriously missing out on the experience using those speakers. It's whole different world with a decent surround set up. You need a sub for the low bass rumble so you can feel your movies too and the the surround sound for the immersive experience.

BenQ W1070 is quite loud smile.gif
Sony projectors are considered one of the quietest projectors. You might find Sony HW30 refurbished for under $1500. DLP projectors are generally loud except for the more expensive home theater models. Sharp XV-Z30000 is the quietest that I've heard among DLPs. At one time you could buy one for $1800 but not anymore.

I would say it has a typically loud eco mode.

30dB isn't quite quiet. biggrin.gif

The Optoma makes less noise:

The JVC RS46 (X35) comes in at a rated 23dB in eco-mode...

That's quite a bit quieter.

The Sony HW50 makes even less noise:

21dB

So, there is certainly a great deal of swing in noise output from the cheaper DLP models to the better LCoS models. One of the features you get when you spend more money is dropping that noise floor.
