HTPC FRONT END SHOOTOUT: Show us your eye candy ! - Page 6

Game Browser is pretty automatic with it.

A few of mine didn't autopopulate - it was pretty specific in how the file folders had to be named. I tried to match those up with the site it pulls data from (thegamesdb.net) but even then a few failed.

For those I just dug around on the internet looking for scans of the box covers to fill out the library. I could add synopsis info about them, but its not so much of a priority for me.

I haven't been following the updates for MB3, but I think it would be rad if there was a way to have codes/passwords added to a screen when it loads metadata.

I was able to setup gamebrowser 3 and it loaded pretty everything automatically once I had all the directories setup and everything configured. Thanks all.

where do you get roms from? I know there is a generic how to guide for mb3 and roms but it doesn't show where to get them from, etc.

If you just want a few then coolrom dot com would be fine

If you want several, it's faster just to tor-d/l an entire pack (old game systems entire collections are small)

I guess I should go back and edit my posts. I guess that was directed towards me ?

Problem is that with disc art flying around and live video back drops pictures don't do it justice. I need to record and upload a youtube video and I've just been lazy. Tomorrow is supposed to be a snow day, I already cancelled my appointments so I plan to stay home I might find some time. biggrin.gif

I can post some screen shots of MB classic with the standard free theme: (but you really need video and audio to do it justice)

Not just you wink.gif

I like pictures better, video backdrops were the first thing I turned off in Plex smile.gif

I'm the same way with tutorials smile.gif I like to see write ups more since I can skim it to see whether or not it's worth my time to read. Videos may have great content, but it's rare that I'll give it my undivided attention for long enough to learn from it

I think the generation just behind me probably feels the exact opposite smile.gif Except you are older than me, so you are obscure in your preference of video. If you do make a video please USE the KEYBOARD and not a mouse. It makes me cringe seeing a mouse in an HTPC demo

Feel free to ignore me, I realize that's like a half dollar of my cents. Just put something up smile.gif

MY HPTC DOES NOT HAVE A MOUSE OR KEYBOARD ON IT biggrin.gif

But I'd make the video on my desktop (which does not have a remote)

PLEX is a world away from MB3 in terms of slickness IMO, the live video backdrops, theme music and all the other stuff going on in MB3 are pretty cool but this is something you really need to experience to understand. I feel like the pictures just don't do it justice at all, they are rather boring IMO.

But I did edit my post and put some pictures in it to appease you. biggrin.gif

Then just use the arrow keys, enter, and backspace on the keyboard. Unplug the mouse

I understand the frustration with the mouse.
I'll go get my HTPC remote and use it on my desktop.. how's that tongue.gif

Wait, what? Plex has video backdrops? I searched for it and do not see that option. Where is it?

I´m pretty sure there's no video backdrops options, as in moving backgrounds. Just the 'slideshow' backdrop feature.

Mediabrowser live video backdrops are totally different than a slide show or moving backdrop. It's actually a background video.

PLEX has a few features but I don't think they do a real live video backdrop. A real live video backdrop is a different animal. It's often like the videos that play behind the menu on the actual BR disc, or the intro to a TV series.

Is there a set up guide or more info on MeediOS ? I want to try it .

That looks pretty cool. Wifey likes Netflix. Is it windows 8 only or W7 too ? The W7 netflix application for WMC is not the best. Can it do 4K or full 5.1 audio ?

Edit: I found it.

Anything special I should know or do ?

You should know its beta. I'm not sure if the madVR player plugin is installed by default.

Download it. Install it. Run the setup. Guide in the wiki: http://www.meedios.com/EN/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=99&Itemid=99 and also the forum.

The wizard should give you a basic setup. Everything is plugin based. The plugins are generally setup in the Configuration Editor program. There are a lot of options in here that can be overwhelming at first, but basically it lets you setup your menu how you want and gives you direct access to the database.

That's obviously very summarized. I don't want to distract from this thread. I'll start a proper MeediOS thread this weekend. You are welcome to pm me on this site or the MeediOS site.

The Netlfix plugin above currently streams to the MeediOS browser via Silverlight.

I have a few questions and forgive me if i sound naive but im just in starting to test the waters for the first time of having all your media into a computer or drobo or nas or what have you.

All these front end skins look increadible. But what device exactly is using these skins/software?
I've been playing with plex and the only way to access my movies from my media server (currently just my computer) is either with my ps3, 360 and blu ray player. But none of them has these skins. instead it has a simple folder type explorer. No description, no background picture, no genre or searching etc. etc.

the only way i can see of getting these nice fancy skins is to plug the computer directly to the receiver and use a mouse keyboard. Is that what you guys are doing??

My only problem with this is i doubt my wife would ever want to watch a movie with anyting other than our harmony remote. Even THAT she had to be taught how to use. God forbid she has to look for a movie using a mouse and keyboard.

Thanks again for the help. This forum is the best.
