So, we'll see ..
I not only agree that we shouldn't jettison the show yet, the latest episode, IV
, convinced me that this is good stuff. I loved the way that Eleanor and Captain Flint's excessive optimism and single-mindedness tends to make them their own worst enemies, and everybody else's worst enemies too. Also enjoyed the explicit explanation that "Mrs. Barlow" is actually the famous Mrs. Hamilton, perhaps history's most famous adulteress. It was also fun to see the resourceful but deeply flawed Captain Vain be nearly brought down but, in the end, be underestimated with lethal results. Finally, I liked the seafaring nitty-gritty. Where else could we have learned about ship careening and side cleaning.
I am not only onboard, for the first time I am really enthusiastic about the show.
