Wow awesome. Thanks! Any more specifics as to why? Better Xmax?

Well the SI 18 has 23.5mm Xmax and the UXL-18 has 34mm Xmas, so its going to move a lot more air.

Would love to add my name but still need new fronts. Will check out jbrowns.
Yeah I would love to pick 1 or 2 up but realistically I already have a couple good 18”s in the mae-x which I’m not even using at this time.
For those of you on the fence about the UXL-18's consider this, above 20hz it has more output then even the LMS-5400 yet costing almost $600 less per driver!
I really hope this group buy goes thru because this is a great value for a pretty heavy hitter in the sub department.

Well it's rated at 1200watts RMS, but I'm told he can easly handle over 2000watts.

I will be watching this. I certainly don't "need" any more subs, but this is very tempting.

I know right....how many subs do any one of us need?? but on the other hand, $400 for a top HT sub contender is very tempting. I spent the better part of the night after all were asleep modeling these against everything else.

And what the heck are all of us doing on the forum this early on Christmas?? biggrin.gif

Chop...what kind of summary can you put together for us with regard to your modeling? You and many others here are much more adept at modeling than I and, the key here, interpreting those models to draw some reasonable conclusions.

I'm in for one.

Got a question about integration, though.

I currently have two SI 18's in 4ft3 sealed end tables powered by an EP4k with global eq via minidsp. If I add the UXL and power it via another EP4k, should I still eq globally or...?

For reference, here's my room. I'd put the UXL in the far right corner behind the couch. ~4ft3 sealed.

Thoughts?

How many are you in for, Chaluga??

With an order of 8-10, your power needs might be a little different than a few others!...biggrin.gif

Depending on the answer, I may be in for two for a fun future project. I know the driver is right at the mouth of the horn on this design, and I wonder if the noises Josh mentions (as not being a problem with a dampened sealed enclosure) might become a problem with the driver rear completely exposed and potentially amplified by the horn mouth. I know I put my head up to they mouth of d_c 's gjallarhorn, and those LMS-5400 drivers were moving fierce! Thoughts? Experiences?

Archaea...I was just in touch with Mark about a couple of things, and he stated that, "Folks who have concerns with things are free to contact me directly." In light of the response, the question above sounds like it might be the ideal candidate to be communicated directly to Mark...with a reply posted here since others might be thinking the same way as you. Sound reasonable?

I am doing my best with Mark to make sure we are getting a great price on these drivers and ensure the Group Buy goes as smoothly as possible. I am positive many of you have solid questions about the UXL-18 performance, usage, and past history that I have not thought of. Some of the answers might be scattered elsewhere or be outdated. This is a great, up-to-date thread to place these ideas/questions/answers about this one driver and more readily have that information available to Group Buy participants as well as possible future UXL-18 buyers.

I'd like to see 100% satisfied owners of 40 new UXL-18s in the near future (as I am sure Mark would as well, eh? biggrin.gif). At this time, I feel confident that the performance of the UXL-18 makes it a great HT driver, that Mark will be taking the utmost care in making and assembling the drivers since he knows we test the crap out of these things in multiple environments, can be very critical, publish our findings, and at $410, it is one of the better bang-for-the-buck deals going right now.

Those of you who have already committed have received my contact info via PM.

Take care, y'all.

I'm potentially interested in four, probably 60/40 or so right now. I'll take a few days to watch this thread and mull it over.
Wife just said yes. Merry christmas to me.

Ill be thinking about it too.... If someone wants some stereo integrity d-4 let me know. One dual opposed 8ft^3 net volume enclosure would be available too.

Excellent, PDX! biggrin.gif

These are 4ohm nominal single voice coil drivers.

Just post definitively how many you are after.

Hi guys!

Total noob here. I have been lurking for a while and this looks like a GREAT way to jump in to DIY!! I do have a question, would these drivers be a good fit in the 4.0 cu ft flat packs available at DIYSOUND?

Thanks!

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^Thx, PDX and Rebel. Probably should have mentioned Rebel figuring this out. Correct me if I am wrong, but did Erich confirm that the SI baffle cut-out would be the better size for the UXL with the flat-pack??
Will include this information in first post in the event of flat-pack people wanting to take a step up the "driver ladder".
I don't know that anyone ever confirmed it.

I don't know if anyone confirmed yet or not. However, this is Josh Ricci's post from your thread just for convenient reference here:

"Any driver using the 12 spoke aluminum basket like FI drivers or the 6 spoke Venezuela style like the SI and UXL or the TI basket like on the LMS 5400 or the Axis TC sounds frame will all drop into the same cutout. The rubber gasket will fit on all these frames as well but adds like 3/8" in outside diameter. These cover the vast majority of heavy duty drivers used by DIYers."

But confirmation??? No, not yet. Anyone else able to weigh in with more solid evidence on this, please do so.
The measurements are both are posted on each manu. Website.
99.9 the uxl with its gasket will drop right in to the si/dayton enclosure. If not, you can get gaskets from si or pe to wrap the frame with.

I think there is plenty of data and users already out there to show this driver is a great buy for HT.

1) is mark still shipping these in heavy corrugated cardboard?

2) is the driver still plug and play ready when shipped or is it done in two pieces like the 5400?

3) anyone have photos of the earlier version like mine vs the new? I don't remember what changed but don't think it was noticeable visually or even measurable?

4) I think I'll be getting 2 more of these and getting an additional FP14k clone. So put me as a "likely" for now.
