I do not currently have a TV, but I'm thinking about getting one soon (perhaps a VT60 at around 55 or 60"). My main obstacle is figuring out how to mount it. I don't wish to dedicate the floor space to just a TV, so I'd like to mount it either on the wall or from the ceiling. This is where it gets tricky: I have a standing desk basically right where it would make sense to put the TV, and I don't particularly wish to give that up.
As far as I can tell, the two options I have are:
- A ceiling mount that can go up and down to get the TV out of the way when it's not in use.
- A full-motion arm that could swing forward and down to place the TV at viewing height (in front of my computer monitors on the standing desk) when in use, then back up and away when not in use.
A 60" VT60 is 80.5lbs (http://shop.panasonic.com/docs/cutsheet/TCP60VT60_Cutsheet.pdf) and a 55" is 69.5lbs (http://shop.panasonic.com/docs/cutsheet/TCP55VT60_Cutsheet.pdf). As far as full-motion arms go, this puts the 55" barely within spec for the Ergotron VHD (http://www.ergotron.com/ProductsDetails/tabid/65/PRDID/623/language/en-US/Default.aspx) or the OmniMount Play70DS (http://www.omnimount.com/products/tv_wall_mounts/interactive/play70ds/).
Ceiling mounts also are a little tricky for me because I have a cathedral ceiling (the ceiling angles up towards a central joist). In this wall's case, the angle of the ceiling gets higher as you move straight back from the wall (as opposed to moving side to side along the wall). There are joists that go up along the ceiling that would be a great thing to bolt into, but all the ceiling mounts I've seen (e.g. http://www.omnimount.com/products/ceiling_and_projector_mounts/ceiling_mounts/scm125/ or http://www.sanus.com/us/en/products/visionmount/ceiling-mount/LC1A or http://www.ergotron.com/ProductsDetails/tabid/65/PRDID/628/language/en-US/Default.aspx) need to bolt into something that's perfectly horizontal, not at an angle or into the side of something.
Any suggestions on how best to move forward? Thanks!
