Your favorite games of 2013

So, time for a "year in review" thread. What games did you have the most fun playing this year? And since not everyone plays new releases immediately, let's not restrict it to titles released in 2013. Here's my list:

Dishonored -- A 2012 game, but I didn't play it until January of this year. I love a game that not only supports, but actively encourages both stealthy and noisy playthroughs.

Spec Ops: The Line --Another 2012 game, a military shooter that actually makes you think about the role of violence in video games. This one really stuck with me.

The Last of Us -- An obvious choice, perhaps, but I can't deny that this was a fantastic gaming experience. It's not a love story in the conventional sense, but it is definitely about Joel and Ellie's love for each other.

Tearaway -- An absolute delight, from beginning to end. Not only does the papercraft world look fabulous, but the storyline is really great, too. The integration of the various Vita controls into gameplay was ingenious and never felt forced; I think platformers on the PS4 could take a lesson on its use of the gyroscope.

Deadly Premonition: The Director's Cut -- Wacky humor and psychosexual trauma side by side. Technically primitive, but it's a game that I'll remember.

The last of Us. Innovative story line from IMO the worlds leading gaming software designers.

Why Iv'e been playing CoD: Ghosts of course! Do Playstations play anything besides that and Madden????? And just what is "The Last of Us"? Is that like a special version of Team DM where you can only spawn once?????? wink.gif j/k haven't played TLOU yet but it's on my list after Bioshock Infinite!

What all came out this year? TLoU was awesome, Bioshock Infinite had a killer story. Really digging KZSF & AC4 but after that my memory rides off. I played too many games to remember them all.

2013 was the year of the little games for me- Hotline Miami, Resogun, Tearaway, Sound Shapes, and Thomas Was Alone.

I really enjoyed TLoU, Tomb Raider, Far Cry 3, Ni No Kuni, and Tales of Xillia.

My biggest disappointment was Bioshock Infinite. Beautiful game, but it just didn't click for me.

I checked the dates in my trophy collection to remind myself of what games I played in 2013.

Bioshock Infinite didn't do much for me, either. Maybe I'm just not smart enough, but the story made NO sense to me whatsoever. I was fricken lost.

I just went through each mission and shot stuff. But the graphics were beautiful and it controlled very well.

2013 was a weak year for the PS3 in general IMO, though it had a few standouts.

Grand Theft Auto V
The Last Of Us
Tomb Raider

Then there were some honorable mentions, mostly from enjoyably quirky titles:

Anarchy Reigns
Dead Space 3
Deadly Premonition: Director's Cut
Dragon's Crown
Dynasty Warriors 8
Hotline: Miami

Some high-profile duds like God Of War: Ascension and Aliens: Colonial Marines, too.

Note that I haven't gotten a PS4 yet, and I haven't picked up anything like ACIV or NFS:R for the PS3 since I expect to eventually get them on PS4.

Think 2013 was the year of catching up on games I missed in 2012. New titles I enjoyed:

TLoU
GTA5
PS4 & it's launch titles
Dota 2 (not PS, but still)

I'm right there with many others, with 2013 being mostly a catch up on 2012 and older releases. Here are a few highlights:

Now among my all-time favorites
Borderlands 2
Deus Ex Human Revolution
Dishonored (GOTY ed)

Gems I would have never played if not for PS Plus.
Sleeping Dogs
Spec Ops The Line
Hitman Absolution
Rayman Origins (Vita)

More Vita Goodness
Uncharted Golden Abyss
Uncharted Fight for Fortune

Oldies But Goodies
Mass Effect
Heavy Rain
Ratchet & Clank HD Collection
Flower (Vita)

The only 2013 release I've played so far is Beyond Two Souls.

My problem is that I had Gamefly for most of 2013 and up until July played a lot on the 360. So my PS trophy list has older titles or their on Live which I don't access anymore. In 2013 I did a lot of catching up....

Borderlands 2 pissed me off. It wasn't even close to its predecessor in terms of comedy, which is where I think the game shines.

Yea it was a bit of a letdown compared to the first. I think I played too much of BL1 because I only finished the first playthrough on two.

- TLoU: I had to finish this as quickly as possible because they story really drew me in, but I couldn't play it around my wife -- it was too violent.
- Deus Ex: HR (replayed it with DLC: The Missing Link) : I don't think I enjoy replaying any other game as much! Now the Director's Cut is out.
- Remember Me: excellent visuals and music, good story, okay mechanics and remix sections -- I enjoyed being there, they really nailed the atmosphere and world.
- Dishonored and Tomb Raider: solid fun
- Journey: got my kids to enjoy it

Is the DLC for Deus Ex a sizable chunk of gameplay? I absolutely loved that game and would be happy to play it again if the DLC adds a bit more to the experience.

It definitely does, adding about 4-5 hours of story/gameplay, telling what happens to Jensen in between two of the latter missions in the game (when he's in the shipping crate)--providing more backstory to some of the big-picture goings on. I don't know if it's worth $15, but I do know the Director's Cut inserts the mission into the game more seamlessly then if you have the original game and then buy and play the DLC separate (it's on a completely separate save file).

The Last of Us

I am working on Dishonored right now and that game is great so far.
