I understand the frustration over the release date but, it's a long season and there is plenty of time to catch up, IMO.

Just all in good fun...I was really looking forward to it, even planning to buy a PS4 as early as this week, but with the delay and having to see the bearded Red Sox player screenshots with zombie eyes specifically is just vomit inducing on several levels. Too bad, this was the perfect compliment & contrast to Titanfall.

If it was not already obvious, Go Rays!

Oh, I get it now. I'm a Braves fan so, I don't quite have the hatred for the Red Sox as other AL East fans. I'm just glad they aren't showing Yankees' crap all the time because that's a team I do hate.

Baseball...the great equalizer...

Spring "training" is in the air here in Tampa...with pitchers and catchers reporting this week. I've already been by the Phillies and Yankees training complex. I'm psyched for another competitive year and more playoff madness.

The Braves are my second favorite team and I'm always pulling for them in the NL. I spent a lot of great years in Richmond as their triple-A team future starts came up through the system, right before and during the long stretch of world series years...all great guys...they would do anything for the kids after the games.

I bet by next holiday season MS is again in the lead - they know how to make people want to play their system .

Don't count on it. We already know their exclusive lineup for the year, and it is nothing new or special. Sony has kept their lineup under lock and key. Sales wise Sony has an almost 2 million lead worldwide at this point, and a 300k lead in the US. Sony is still selling everything they can ship while Microsoft is already having to cut prices in an attempt to move units.

Their sales dropped off almost as badly as the Wii U did for their first January. Microsoft is not in a good position and all they truly have is a cross gen game to salvage their sales. It isn't looking pretty for them right now.

As a Nintendo fan it is funny seeing the same arguments used to defend the Wii U's poor performance now being used to defend the Xbox One. It has almost been a 1:1 repeat on forums.

Xbox hasn't released sales figures nor have they " slashed " prices ...

Stop the nonsense .

It's a marathon not a sprint and its undeniable that MS blew sony away in the second half of the race .

I've had a play station since day 1.

Sales figures are well known, they were at 2.8 million as of the end of the year with 3.9 million shipped. They sold under 150k in the US in January, sales are flat in all other regions.

As for prices being slashed, almost every major retailer is offering gift cards, free games and other offers on the console. The same thing happened to the Wii U at this point in it's life and we all know how that worked out. (Marathon not a Sprint, yet another argument from the Wii U launch. wink.gif )

And where did Microsoft blow away Sony in the second half of the race? Sony overtook them last year worldwide. (360 vs PS3)

I will just keep it short...Not sure why so many believe you have to either be on one band wagon or the other. No system needs a "killer" of any sort. Owning both systems as far back as they were both available, I like them both, for different games and reasons. I am fortunate that I am able to afford both each time because I am a true gamer...maybe not hardcore, but def a gamer of record. Dating all the way back to my 1st...the Atari 2600. I say buy both and end this silly rivalry. Nothing to argue about. Grown men putting down one over the other is non sense. If not both, simply buy what you like and enjoy. :) Pros and cons with both. I will tell you this, the hype is real for me. After playing the beta, I like the game play a lot. Again, I like games that happen to be exclusive to the other....Gears of War, Infamous, GT5...6 etc, Forza, DR3 and so on. I just love variety. Only loyal to my wife. :)

That's funny, the Rays are my second favorite team because I live in Montgomery, home of their AA affiliate.

Agreed 1000% but this started with people getting upset that I feel the PS4 library is thin and not overly wowing me ....I have a PS4 and am debating the ONE ....

I think for what they are, they are both truly amazing accomplishments from where they originated. From time to time, I/we still play both the PS3 and the Xbox 360....its the Wii that is back in its box...lol only because I prefer more adult derived games to play. We literally have most all systems made. Even a Sega DreamCast...you name it. No biases towards one over the other. :)

Rolltide,

You Sir are an excellent, well informed, and model baseball fan!

But I'm sure our college football allegiances would differentiate. biggrin.gif

Gaming console debates are almost as bad, and unproductive as debating the merits of sports teams but the difference is the money invested unless you are all-in financially but this is not the format for that. For example, not many people go for season tickets while almost everyone I know has to make a 1k+ gaming console commitment right off the bat.

All I would is ask is give it time. Owning both consoles will pay off long term. It always does. Worth the investment, just give me something to work with Sony!!!

Edit: My bad, everyone should own all 3 (especially with kids) including WiiU. Even I forget sometimes. Getting Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze tonight for only $40. Good times ahead...

I too agree with this....having 13 y/o twin boys, and a 10 y/o boy, but even they have moved past the Wii. Used to be a die hard Nintendo fan....just couldn't continue being disappointed that Nintendo didn't have or planned to offer the games I/we really wanted to play. I guess if you have really young children and you really wanna ensure they play age appropriate games, the Wii is the way to go. :)  (think I am gonna sell our Wii...it deserves a new home in which it will get attention and love. :) ) Like you said, in the end both of the Mega consoles will pay off! Wonder if Apple will seriously consider entering this market as they once talked about. That would be interesting. Remember when we 1st heard that MICROSOFT would be entering this space with a device called the Xbox? lol Forward to today.

some of you are seemingly dismissive and closed minded and not giving TitanFall a chance, some even acting childish with their XBOX bashing. Is it en vogue these days to get hung up on pixel counting?

a lot of these posts dismissing TitanFall "seem" to be solely based on watching videos. These impressions "seem" backed not by any real experience but rather knee jerk reactionary opines that fuel fanboyism. Here's a thought why not play it yourself? As a second option, go over to the XBOX subforum and read people's reviews on it. Those are people like us, people like you and me. AVSers, those who love A and V but also play games.

It is one game, it is the one game that will make next gen funfor those who primarily play MP games. I myself am one am squarely in their target demographic. If you like puzzles, not a match for you, if you like a good narrative, not for you either. A period piece from the middle ages, nope, a stealth game? Nope...

Let's get back to basics, a game is defined as: a form of play or sport, esp. a competitive one played according to rules and decided by skill, strength, or luck.
synonyms: pastime, diversion, entertainment, amusement, distraction, divertissement, recreation, sport, activity

It's about entertainment, diversion, past time, amusement, distraction and and man is TitanFall all of that for me.

Like I said, I primarily play MP games. Rainbow Six 3 waay back in 2003 is what I started with and it's been COD or Halo ever since. No much of a story guy, I prefer adversarial matches and I cannot even begin to say how TitanFall is a breath of fresh air into an overly stale genre.

I get it, TitanFall isn't for everyone, hell nothing is for everyone but if you like to have fun now (or on March 11th) and not hung up on pixel counting, TitanFall is for you. The limitless ways to play between Titan and Pilot is sometimes overwhelming (analysis paralysis) but the good thing is that TitanFall is only as complex and deep as you decide to make it.

For example, I'm a pilot and I only want to get easy kills. I'll equip my smart pistol and start running around the map popping off enemy AI and help the team that way. I can use cloak and wall run to my hearts content. flank and play traditionally ignoring Titans when I see them. If I get bored, I can play as a Titan and rain down terror from my metal machine of death. I can seek out other titans as Titan. I can earn a Titan and have it follow me while I clean up house on certain areas. I can setup a Titan on guard more to watch certain choke points while I change class and become a sniper.

Yes, the videos are very informative and offer a ton more than just reading but there is nothing quite like playing the game.

I went into the beta thinking that this was garbage and set my standards high. In the beginning, I thought the same as most of the dismissals on this thread. superficial game, gimmicky and nothing really new but the more I played it the more the complexities and depth started to show themselves. This depth as only as deep and complex as you make it out to be which I think is magic in how they established this.

now don't get me wrong, there are some issues with the game and with the One in general. Things like screen tears and framerate drops as well as party issues but they were not enough to detract from the positive experience that I have been having, along with a buttload of people, with this game. It simply is fun to play. I don't think they set out to be the cutting edge visually but they sure are on the cutting edge of fun for us folks who play predominantly multiplayer types of games.

What did I play before this? Played a ton of COD4, a ton of MW2 and skipped W@W (remember that hot garbage) BLOPS1 and 2 entirely (rented BLOPS 1 and HATED IT). Played Ghosts on both 360 and X1 and Peggle while the wife finished up Ryse, ACIV and now Tomb Raider while I watch. On the Sony side of things, the PS3 was primarily played by the wife and I watched the story that way. She played a lot of uncharted (1,2,3) and God of War, InFamous, Last of Us, that tower defense game.

No PS4 yet, there are no games out now that make me want to get a PS4. key word is NOW. Yes, I'm sure the next installations of Uncharted, InFamous, Last of Us, God of War etc. etc. etc. will look photo-realistic which is great if you are into that sort of thing. Nothing is wrong with that and I'm not going to minimize the visual fidelity that these next gen titles will bring because I'm sure it will look good, it's just that this format is games is not my cup of tea. I don't need a game to look life like for me to have fun. I can go back and play Super Mario Brother and have the same fun as if I played the 4K version of Assassin's Creed IV. Just like movies, a good movie is a good movie no matter the video fidelity. Does it detract from the acting and sound and more importantly the story of the movie if it's broadcast in standard definition and in black and white? No, it shouldn't!

Sooner or later a game will come out and will pique my interest in buying a PS4 but for now, I'm going to play the last few day/s of the TitanFall beta and have fun doing so.

So far, there is no TitanFall killer on PS4. The only way to get your breath of fresh air FPS Adversarial MP rocks off is TitanFall. You can play by getting the XBOX One and going on Live or a PC. Yup, I realize that the XBOX One is $499 + $39 for Live and $59 for the game. $600 is a lot of loot and if you're not playing the PS4 right NOW leverage that into a game system that you will play NOW. It's not like they're going to stop making PS4s when games start rolling in for it in the future, pick it up again. Obviously the 2nd hand market is still hot for it, I bet you can get what you paid for for the hardware and take hits on the software. If you can and want to get both, get TitanFall it's a no brainer.
Just get Titanfall on Xbox 360 if fun is your only objective. There is zero reason to get it for Xbox One unless you already own the console for some other reason. The Xbox One is doing a poor job of selling people on a reason to own it over a 360, and Titanfall won't change that.

I will say, it is nice to see Titanfall trying to move back towards fast paced gameplay with lots of jumps and skill shots, but it still lacks the skill element thanks to hit scan weapons and no recoil and it lacks the speed of the old Quake and Unreal games. I am hoping that we see a return to those kind of games thanks to Titanfall, it is a step in the right direction.

Actually Killzone Shadow Fall multiplayer has been a nice breath of fresh air compared to the stale COD shooters. PS4 has had there 1st party multiplayer shooter since launch and now that the Xbox One is getting theirs I am sure it will sell consoles.
Honestly if that one game actually mattered to me I'd try the PC since I already have one. Missed the beta so I'm not sure it would run anyway. Second option is a used 360 + Live and the game. An xbone is just not worth it and for me wouldn't be worth it for a long time. I think the single biggest factor driving TF right now is COD fatigue. Which is a whole other issue in and of itself.

Your observations are not far off though Mike.

Forgive my ignorance but besides the beautiful picture, what's so fresh and meaningful about this version, online MP wise?
First and foremost KZ is not the laggy $%&*fest that BF is and it ain't COD. Second it doesn't have aim assist which makes for a lot more challenge than COD's laser beams or BF4's hefty aim assist. Finally because COD fans find it boring you get a better class of player working towards the objectives rather than hunkered down camping.

Besides the 1080P visuals, it would be the gameplay. Personally its the "warzone" mode. In this mode there are 9 different objectives randomly throughout a 45 min game. Which ever team wins 5 objectives first wins the match. The best matches are the ones that end at 4 vs 5. Because after dedicating 40 minutes of gameplay into a game the tension is super high going into that last objective. Winning is so much sweater, as apposed to winning in a 10 min COD game. Its awesome. There are no mechs and jetpacks in Killzone : SF multiplayer, but there were mechs and jetpacks in Killzone 3.

Also they have a pretty cool ranking system that is based on completing objectives and not just xp. Its pretty addicting....
Killzone is probably the best looking console game ever. I'm constantly in awe of the graphics. Those gorgeous graphics are easy to appreciate having played nothing but consoles my whole life, and next gen PQ was the reason why I was so eager to buy/play day one. Titanfall on the other hand looks last gen, and regardless of the gameplay, it doesn't come close to appealing to my evolving aesthetics.

KZ gameplay is solid and challenging. It's an easy game to learn, but not so easy that boredom sets in. Not nearly as complex or challenging as BF, but it's simplicity is appreciated when I want to take a break from BF. KZ is no different than any other shooter... it has weapons and you aim, fire, shoot people. Reminds me most of Halo, probably because of the melee animation, and because it's a sc-fi shooter. It's fun, and that's what matters.

When I saw the Titanfall videos I thought, if you like cod then you'll love TF. Seems to be the case.

Really though, it's nice that some people will drop $560 for just one game. Meanwhile, Sonys got/will have 6 announced exclusives this year and a few tricks up their sleeve; all during a launch year. That's not including JPN exclusives or Indy. If you can't find something to your liking, I highly doubt you're much into this hobby in the first place.

Different strokes for different folks, but I'm willing to bet most AVS'ers in the gaming forums aren't just picking up a FPS and Sports title and playing then day in day out until the sequel his. Sony exclusives might have lagged in sales last gen, but I don't think anyone can argue that they didn't put a lot of quality stuff out there for a lot of different tastes. That trend seems to be accelerating.

Is that racing title Drive Club? The in-car view looks amazing!!! Day 1 for me...I just hope it has a compelling offline career mode.

I also hope my Fanatec Porsche S wheel will work with it. It was the one designed for Forza 3...but always worked fine with my PS3 and PC

I think it was because, around the time the consoles launched, some thread bans where handed down to some folks for using that the term "fanboy" so, loyalist became a substitute.

first of all those pics/gifs look amazing. I'm sure the immersion factor is greatly increased as far as getting into the story goes.

$600 is a butt load of money but if they're only going to play that one game (like I do) for 12-18 months (along with other "casual" games like Peggle 2) who is to judge them. Like you said, different strokes right? For me, $500 sytem + $40 live for 1 year + $60 for TitanFall = $600 well spent. It offers the variety of different results each match and a different experience with different people and well that's the stroke for a ton of people.

For others it can be something else, a $400 system + $40 for PSN + $60 per exclusive (6 as you said) or $360 so a launch year can cost a gamer $800 because they want that variety. I myself do not have the time nor inclination for that many games. Life is too short and at times extremely busy (career, wife, 2 kids, trying to have a social life). I'm one of those guys who will watch the entire cut scenes only videos on youtube so that I don't have to play the campaign. Sacrilegious to gaming? Maybe to some; my gaming is done on the cyber battlefield.

Let's re-scope for discussions sake. XBOX One has TitanFall vs. PS4 and no TitanFall. I would argue against using critics as gauges in trying to compare TF vs. KZ as their pockets may or may not be lined accordingly. I think the best way to get to the bottom of it all is to find a buddy who has both and see what they say.

I don't have PS4 yet and many of my friends have it but they don't have KZ strange enough. I mean if KZ is that good I would they would be hanging their hats on that game. I share similar gaming preferences with them and they're not buying Killzone. They're mumbling about TitanFall some are going out and buying XBOX One just for TitanFall. Coming from the Internet, this is purely anecdotal and I'm not trying to start the whole XBOX vs. PS war, nothing is going to gain with that.
