some of you are seemingly dismissive and closed minded and not giving TitanFall a chance, some even acting childish with their XBOX bashing. Is it en vogue these days to get hung up on pixel counting?
a lot of these posts dismissing TitanFall "seem" to be solely based on watching videos. These impressions "seem" backed not by any real experience but rather knee jerk reactionary opines that fuel fanboyism. Here's a thought why not play it yourself? As a second option, go over to the XBOX subforum and read people's reviews on it. Those are people like us, people like you and me. AVSers, those who love A and V but also play games.
It is one game
, it is the one game
that will make next gen fun
for those who primarily play MP games. I myself am one am squarely in their target demographic. If you like puzzles, not a match for you, if you like a good narrative, not for you either. A period piece from the middle ages, nope, a stealth game? Nope...
Let's get back to basics, a game is defined as: a form of play or sport, esp. a competitive one played according to rules and decided by skill, strength, or luck.
synonyms: pastime, diversion, entertainment, amusement, distraction, divertissement, recreation, sport, activity
It's about entertainment, diversion, past time, amusement, distraction and and man is TitanFall all of that for me.
Like I said, I primarily play MP games. Rainbow Six 3 waay back in 2003 is what I started with and it's been COD or Halo ever since. No much of a story guy, I prefer adversarial matches and I cannot even begin to say how TitanFall is a breath of fresh air into an overly stale genre.
I get it, TitanFall isn't for everyone, hell nothing is for everyone but if you like to have fun now (or on March 11th) and not hung up on pixel counting, TitanFall is for you. The limitless ways to play between Titan and Pilot is sometimes overwhelming (analysis paralysis) but the good thing is that TitanFall is only as complex and deep as you decide to make it.
For example, I'm a pilot and I only want to get easy kills. I'll equip my smart pistol and start running around the map popping off enemy AI and help the team that way. I can use cloak and wall run to my hearts content. flank and play traditionally ignoring Titans when I see them. If I get bored, I can play as a Titan and rain down terror from my metal machine of death. I can seek out other titans as Titan. I can earn a Titan and have it follow me while I clean up house on certain areas. I can setup a Titan on guard more to watch certain choke points while I change class and become a sniper.
Yes, the videos are very informative and offer a ton more than just reading but there is nothing quite like playing the game.
I went into the beta thinking that this was garbage and set my standards high. In the beginning, I thought the same as most of the dismissals on this thread. superficial game, gimmicky and nothing really new but the more I played it the more the complexities and depth started to show themselves. This depth as only as deep and complex as you make it out to be which I think is magic in how they established this.
now don't get me wrong, there are some issues with the game and with the One in general. Things like screen tears and framerate drops as well as party issues but they were not enough to detract from the positive experience that I have been having, along with a buttload of people, with this game. It simply is fun to play. I don't think they set out to be the cutting edge visually but they sure are on the cutting edge of fun for us folks who play predominantly multiplayer types of games.
What did I play before this? Played a ton of COD4, a ton of MW2 and skipped W@W (remember that hot garbage) BLOPS1 and 2 entirely (rented BLOPS 1 and HATED IT). Played Ghosts on both 360 and X1 and Peggle while the wife finished up Ryse, ACIV and now Tomb Raider while I watch. On the Sony side of things, the PS3 was primarily played by the wife and I watched the story that way. She played a lot of uncharted (1,2,3) and God of War, InFamous, Last of Us, that tower defense game.
No PS4 yet, there are no games out now that make me want to get a PS4. key word is NOW. Yes, I'm sure the next installations of Uncharted, InFamous, Last of Us, God of War etc. etc. etc. will look photo-realistic which is great if you are into that sort of thing. Nothing is wrong with that and I'm not going to minimize the visual fidelity that these next gen titles will bring because I'm sure it will look good, it's just that this format is games is not my cup of tea. I don't need a game to look life like for me to have fun. I can go back and play Super Mario Brother and have the same fun as if I played the 4K version of Assassin's Creed IV. Just like movies, a good movie is a good movie no matter the video fidelity. Does it detract from the acting and sound and more importantly the story of the movie if it's broadcast in standard definition and in black and white? No, it shouldn't!
Sooner or later a game will come out and will pique my interest in buying a PS4 but for now, I'm going to play the last few day/s of the TitanFall beta and have fun doing so.
So far, there is no TitanFall killer on PS4. The only way to get your breath of fresh air FPS Adversarial MP rocks off is TitanFall
. You can play by getting the XBOX One and going on Live or a PC. Yup, I realize that the XBOX One is $499 + $39 for Live and $59 for the game. $600 is a lot of loot and if you're not playing the PS4 right NOW
leverage that into a game system that you will play NOW
. It's not like they're going to stop making PS4s when games start rolling in for it in the future, pick it up again. Obviously the 2nd hand market is still hot for it, I bet you can get what you paid for for the hardware and take hits on the software. If you can and want to get both, get TitanFall it's a no brainer.
