How to connect HTIB bare wire subwoofer to new receiver w/ no spring clips

I just got a new receiver (Denon 1712) and am wanting to use my old HTIB subwoofer until I can save for an upgrade. The old subwoofer is one of those cheaper ones included in the HTIB kits and connects with bare wire (speaker wire??) to the spring clips on the back of generic HTIB receivers. My new Denon has a subwoofer cable input but I don't know how to adapt my old sub to be compatible (or if it is even compatible). I had read somewhere that you could hook it up to a Left or Right speaker jack but wanted to ask here before trying it. Thanks for the advice.

Thank you for correcting my typo (sigh).

I know it is passive and realize I will eventually need to purchase a powered subwoofer. I was wanting to know if I had any free options until then. I thought I had read somewhere of a person hooking up a passive HTIB subwoofer to a L and R output, disabling the subwoofer during auto-setup, and switching the front L and R speaker setting to 'large speaker'. I was wanting to know if this was something that was possible or if they were talking about something completely different. I am only interested in trying this out as a free, temporary option. Purchasing a powered subwoofer or amp is not an option at this time. I don't know why you would recommend a $200 amplifier for a subwoofer that came with a HTIB kit that cost less than your suggested means of powering my subwoofer unless I am missing something? I could get a powered Dayton Sub-1200 for less than that and it would likely sound better than what I have now...

Anyways, thanks for the suggestion but I will have to pass on both of them.

Does anyone have any thoughts about hooking up the sub as detailed above?
