Optoma ML500 streaming films via a laptop/iPad

I bought the ML500 and a screen as a Christmas present based on the good reviews that i found on this forum.

We now have an issue....

We want to use either our laptop (HP Pavilion 15-n098) or our iPad to stream movies directly to the ML500.  However, we want to split the audio and the picture so that we can stream the audio straight to our stereo (Naim with an ARCAM r-Blink box) and have the picture coming from the laptop or iPad.

Neither the iPad or the laptop have VGA connection.  We can get a great picture through both using the HDMI connection, but the only audio is through the ML500.  As you can imagine, that won't work!

We understand that we can buy an iPad to VGA adapter, but this won't let us stream the movies because of infringement issues.  We also understand that we can buy a HDMI to VGA adapter for the HP laptop, but will this allow us to strip the audio and the picture?

Can anyone please help us.

Many thanks

Thanks andysm.  We are happy to use the laptop but because both it and the ARCAM r-Blink box are bluetooth enabled, we want to do this wirelessly rather than have to use the headphone socket and a 6 meter cable.

Any ideas how to split the audio and visual outputs to do this?

Thanks
