Having missed the follow-up confirmation of "no 3D", you can see how the conflicting information was casting doubt. Especially as someone with binocular vision, who has never experienced 2D in any other part of my life, I kind of expected 3D entertainment to expand and improve.
Like Scott said in the CES wrap podcast, this new P was the chance to have 1080 vertical lines of passive 3D, rather than 540, but no cigar. That would have been a big leap in quality based on what I've seen of the 540-line version.
So my plan is to watch for the off-viewing-angle contrast of the new P series, and if it's a step backwards, try the 2013 M501-d (IPS panel) for the wide room, if a good sale price comes along. I won't be expecting the $600 Black Friday deal on the M501-d to come around any time soon however, but maybe under $700?
