Ok. Think I figured out whats going on.

For Disk and local media (e.g DLNA)

If audio enhancer is ON and Digital Audio Output is set to AUTO

DTS-MA 7.1 is output as PCM 7.1
DTS 5.1 is output as PCM 5.1
Dolby TrueHD 7.1 is output as 7.1 TrueHD bitstream
Dolby 5.1 is output as Dolby 5.1 bitstream

if audio enhancer is ON and Digital audio output is set to PCM

DTS-MA 7.1 is output as PCM 7.1
DTS 5.1 is output as PCM 5.1
Dolby TrueHD 7.1 is output as 2.0 PCM
Dolby 5.1 is output as 2.0 PCM

So audio enhancer appears to do nothing for DD.

I tried a DTS-MA audio concert film to see if I could tell the difference and see if audio enhancer did anything. Not really sure, because you can't do the change on the fly, but preferred the regular DTS-MA bitstream - non audio enhancer version - I think.

The audio enhancer isn't for DTS-HD MA audio. It's for enhancing lower quality audio.

I forgot it was the one app I did not like on the S5100. S if they updated it on the S6200 that would be a huge plus for me.

thanks for this info. Had purchased the S5100 on Amazon but cancelled it for the S6200. Between the potential for better Amazon and faster performance, I'm hoping it was worth the $90 price difference.

If that's the case then why when it's enabled does DTS audio sources convert to multi channel PCM

Because the audio needs to be decoded before anything can be done to it.

Now that everyone is in the audio mindset....

Has anyone successfully passed DD+ from Netflix app on the 6200 to their AVR for decoding?

for 2012 owners that have the 790, upgrading to a 6200 they get the benefit of the new audio enhancer, the new netflix app (with 5800kbps support), a new crackle app and maybe a new Amazon app. They also get improved codec support in MKVs with MPEG2 and VC-1 video codecs. If they have a 2013 or above Sony TV, and appropriate BD media, they can take advantage of extended color. They also get screen mirroring with Android phone and tablets.
They loose the extra HDMI output and arguably less solid build.

... and also multi-channel FLAC support, as well.

BTW, what's the advantage of "extended colour" and why only Sony display? Wouldn't it also work with 2012 Panasonic plasma display?
It's because only Sony has implemented all the support needed for xvYCC in discs, players and TVs. I wouldn't be a bit surprised if they've patented some of the critical parts. frown.gif Note that it's not the same as "deep color", which uses more bits per color, but rather it assigns different colors to the binary color encodings.

Now that's "interesting". I hate proprietary solutions to non-existent problems. rolleyes.gif

Right but why not simply pass bitstream out for all DTS when digital audio out is set to auto and audio enhancer is on - like with dolby ?

Is there a setting that would cause it to send DD instead of DD+, as my AVR says it is receiving DD and not DD+.

You definitely selected the DD+ sound option in Netflix right? With the new interface you have to hit the down direction button once the stream begins to play to choose audio options.

Yeah. I was watching an episode of "House of Cards".

Any word on if the Amazon app is available/when it will be available?

sounds like you are the only one not receiving DD+. I assume you are connected via HDMI for audio. Make sure your receiver is enabled to handle DD+ so that it will tell the player during hand shake that it in fact can handle DD+.

Yeah, hdmi to a Denon 4311. Denon thread says the issue is on the player end of things. Ugh.

Thoughts on what settings to check in the AVR?
Sorry, don't own denons. My avr doesn't require any configuration but I have seen other brands need some configurations, a unnecessary complication. Sony players obey HDMI handshake 100%.

I finally figured it out...it was a setting in the 6200. If you have the 'Digital Audio Enhancer' turned on...it only outputs DD when watching a Netflix stream with DD+ chosen. However, if you turn in off...the 6200 sends DD+ as it should.

SIDENOTE: This would be an easy workaround for those with AVRs that don't decode DD+ correctly.

Can anyone please comment on how much noise the BDP-S1200/S3200/S5200/S6200 makes while playing a Blu-Ray Disc?

Also, I assume there might be some difference between the S1200/S3200/S5200 vs S6200, since the latter has a somewhat different/larger chassis design?
Crap my S6200 was supposed to be delivered today but it looks like it was delayed because of weather.

This years models are supposed to have the same sealed player as last years models that is supposed to keep out dust and be quiet.

Hi can someone please tell me if the 6200 can have a Skype camera attached to it or does the 790 have this feature?

Yea, I have a 4311 and I was getting dd+ fine with netflix. Some posts back I did a number of tests with the audio enhancer. That thing is nothing but trouble. It seems to behave differently based on the application, let alone the sound format selected.

The bad news is that my 6200 is now dead. That lasted all of 4 days. It powers up shows wait and then powers back down again. I believe another user had this issue. I hope everyone else has better luck !

In terms of disc noise. It still spins when the disc is inserted regardless of playing or not. Its still noisy during initial read but isn't overly noisy during playback. I don't see it being any different from last years players or my s790 that wasn't noisy either.
