Wooden TV Stand Mount? Is there such a thing? Not according to Best Buy, Home Depot, or Staples

Hi all. I have a wooden tv stand on which I currently have my tv. My toddlers are now able to reach the tv and smack the screen in excitement when watching their cartoons. I would like to attach a mount to the back of the tv stand to raise it up above their reach. However, all I have found are wall mounts (not an option for me) or stands with glass shelves (I'm sure the boys will slam their toys on it and break the glass). The stands with the glass shelves are perfect as they have a stand and mount and simply weld the shelves onto the stand. I'm looking for a stand (either stand alone or much more preferably, to attach to the back of my existing wooden tv stand) and mount, just without the glass shelves. Most of those shelves are welded and not detachable. The handful I've seen have specified heights where the screws are and are different from where I can reasonably attach it to the stand. I've been to Best Buy, Home Depot, and Staples and no one has anything like what I'm looking for as they presume that the owner of a wooden tv stand would simply put the tv ON the stand. Fine, but now I need to raise it up. It seems it's either the a wooden stand with no mount or a mount and stand with only glass shelves. I've tried new egg.com and toptvmounts.com

Any advice?

Best Buy carries this http://www.bestbuy.com/site/arena-tv-mount-for-flat-panel-tvs-up-to-60/9548885.p;jsessionid=A9607F7DE77F5A3439DAE5B68DEC67B2.bbolsp-app04-188?id=1218217429104&skuId=9548885&st=tv%20mount&cp=1&lp=1

Stupid link won't work. Look for SKU 9548885. I assume you want something similar at a more reasonable price.

Also search "tv mount" at best buy. I didn't finish all the pages, but there were a couple of items that may work for you.

Thanks for the SKU. That is EXACTLY what I'm looking for but HOLY MOLY, $650!!!! That's like $50 worth of metal! I'm going to keep looking but if you find anything similar in your travels for under $200, please definitely let me know! Thanks!!

I was considering the two linked metal TV stands (Bello and the BDI) ...

i got thrown off by the Bell'o, because it says it only works with certain stands.

... is it indeed free standing? or does it attach to your stand somehow to stability?

The BDI looks like it has the width at the floor to be stable standing on it's own. The Bell'o looks like it would need help...

I bought the Bello and it is indeed free standing. With that said, if you have kids like I do, I wouldn't use it by itself. I have a wooden tv stand NOT made by Bello and, since the Bello metal stand was made to use with it's wooden stands, it doesn't line up perfectly and therefore, cannot be attached and secure to my particular wooden stand...unless I wanted to drill into the metal stand and make new holes lined up with my wooden stand. I don't feel like doing that right now. As such, I have the metal Bello stand about 1"-2" away from the wall enough to allow cords and what have you to run behind the whole thing but not TOO far from the wall that if it were to tip off balance, it will lean up against the wall without enough momentum to destroy the wall. Also, I was able to slide the metal stand under the wooden stand and it's rather secure that way. It is out of the reach of my toddlers, they have the top of the wooden stand to play on, and the whole set up seems very secure. While not exactly ideal, it certainly appears sufficient to do the job. Of course if I felt like drilling new holes and what have you, it would pretty much be perfect. Hope that helps!
